What is procastination?

Pro- is defined as "toward or on behalf of" and -castination is defined as "the state or fact of being castrated.” The word procastination in this case means to interrupt someone who has worked steadily by preventing them from finishing their work. In other words, you are the person doing the interrupting.

As an Extrovert, you need to STOP procrastinating. Procrastination is an introvert’s worst nightmare. It is the procrastinator who makes a mess of everything they touch. The benefit of being an introvert is that I am more aware of the power of quiet time than others. Therefore, I know that when I'm busy with work that means I'm not taking my personal introspective time to re-evaluate where my strengths and weaknesses are. I'm not re-energizing. I'm not restoring.

Introverts, beware, when you become too devoted to accomplishing your goals in solitude, you also have a tendency to procrastinate. Why? Because you are spending so much time alone, it is easy to fall into the distractions of introversion: reading, watching movies, surfing the Internet. It is easy to not realize that you should be reflecting on where you are headed with your goals.

When I say "stop procrastinating" this means:

You must establish priorities and decide what is more important to you than the other things that are coming at you. For example, if I want a new car, or a home, or nice clothes or jewelry, but the bills are pressing in on my mind and I could not focus on all the things on my list. I would have to set priorities.

You must decide what it is you truly want out of life which includes family and friends. No one can promise you an easy life. Everyone has their own struggles and this is something that should be considered when creating goals for yourself and your loved ones.

You must establish a solid work ethic so that you will be able to accomplish your goals. Whether it is day-to-day tasks or long-term goals, you must be focused. If you are not focused on what needs to be done, you will easily procrastinate.

You must be more open and aware of your surroundings and acknowledge opportunities that arise in front of you. You need to see what is going on around you not just what is happening in front of your face.

You need to be flexible. If one plan goes wrong, you need to know how to move on with your life without wasting time. If there is a new opportunity presented to you, no matter how small the window of opportunity is, you must take advantage of it. On the other hand, if you have been working on a project for some time and suddenly you realize it will not go your way or it's not what you want anymore then let it go.

Admit that you are a procrastinator. This is the first step towards overcoming your problem. Most of us, including myself, have a tendency to make excuses and create reasons to explain our behavior away. As an introvert, I often find myself saying "I am just an introvert" as if that explains my behavior. Instead of using this as an excuse to not accomplish your goals, use it as fuel to create something new and exciting in your life.

The most important part of tasks is working on something, anything.

In order to overcome procrastination you need to stop wasting valuable time.

When I started dealing with my procrastination symptoms I was thinking about all the things that I needed to do.

After I came up with a list of items that needed to be done, I realized how much unnecessary time I had been wasting. I was guarding time that I could have been using to make my life better.

It was a shock to realize I was wasting my time.

I realized that I had wasted 3 hours at the gym because I did not want to admit that I do not work out everyday, therefore on busiest days I skip working out.

I went through the same process of painful self-evaluation with every item on my list. As a result, each time I would stop procrastinating and tell myself "that's it.
