Some days you wake up and feel like the world is getting too big, and you can't keep up with it. You might be feeling overwhelmed with stress, high expectations, or just life all together.
If this sounds like you – especially if this kind of stress is overwhelming – it's time to stop acting like you live twice as much as everyone else.
Stop feeling like you have to be working twice as hard to do the same thing. Stop acting like you have double the goals, double the responsibilities, or double the opportunities.
People often tell me that it's better to feel stressed out than to try and play it off 'like everything's ok.' They tell me, "You should just let people know when you need help or support."
I can't disagree with them in general, but in this case I think they're making an even bigger mistake. It's not "letting people know." It's not asking for help.
It's RELYING on others to make you feel like you're living twice as much when in actuality, you're probably living twice as little.
So when things get out of hand and it feels like the world is bigger than your life and you can't keep up, do me a favor: STOP ACTING LIKE YOU LIVE TWICE AS MUCH AS EVERYONE ELSE.
Stop acting like you have double the expectations. Stop acting like you have double the opportunities. Stop acting like you have double the responsibilities.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret: You don't live twice as much as everybody else. Most of the time, you live about the same life most people do with just a different set of circumstances and conditions that you've had to deal with or accept. And that's ok.
You can still succeed and be happy just living your life normally – even if your normal is less than perfect, which most normal is.
It's not that you should settle for less; it's that you shouldn't feel like you have to make up for what others think you could be living. You don't have to outdo anybody else.
Likewise, you don't have to make up for what others make up in the way of problems.
No matter how much other people are complaining or how much drama is taking place around you, there's no need to get stressed out about it.
It's not the end of the world; it's not even the end of your world. It's just drama.
So stop acting like you're twice as much as everybody else. You don't have to feel that way or live that way because it isn't true. So stop acting like that extra pressure is there to make you better; it's not.
Realize that others aren't living twice as much as you. They're just living their life like you're living yours.
Most likely, you live about the same number of minutes and hours and days and months and years as they do.
You might not have everything they have in terms of material possessions or even logical necessities, but you probably don't need double of it either.
