5 Simple Steps to Controlling Your Anger.
Sometimes, the tension of everyday life can cause you to lash out at those around you. You may have experienced anger towards friends and family members, but the best way to prevent long-term anger from ruining your life is by using these five basic steps.
1) Step Out:
This should be a quick action that forces you away from whatever is causing your anger. It will help clear our minds and make room for more rational thoughts. It's also important to calm down before speaking with anyone else at this moment — try walking outside or taking a few deep breaths before trying to talk to someone else about what caused your rage.
2) Take Action:
When you have calmed down and have a clear mind again, take action towards gaining control of the situation. It could indicate finding a new way to talk to the person you were angry at, taking your anger out on other activities that aren't as serious, and possibly even threatening situations such as writing letters or emails. Once you've taken action, try to find out what caused the anger in the first place. Apologize for any wrongs if necessary.
3) Take Time:
Think about what brought about this rage or what triggered your anger in the first place. Analyze the situation and try to find the minor level of change you can make. If a case will take time, take it. If you can't avoid an angry event, think about how you'll deal with it and manage your emotions through constant reminders that this situation is going to happen so that you don't dwell on the problem (and worse yet: let it turn into a full-blown rage attack).
4) Don't Take Everything Personally:
Even if someone means what they say when they anger you, don't take everything personally. Everyone has their temperament and taste. Just because someone has feelings of anger doesn't mean that they're a terrible person or intend to hurt or disrespect others (though they might be both!).
5) Take Time to Relax:
Don't take time to relax after an argument or heated discussion with someone you care about. Instead, have fun activities with others. Go out with friends and family, stay involved in your favorite hobby, or do something that makes you happy.
Remember: it's never too late to discover how to control your anger. These simple steps won't take long to implement but will help you in many more serious situations later. Good luck!
