7 Ways To Develop Momentum And Get Things Done
Are you stuck in a rut? Momentum is a difficult thing to find, but with just a little bit of planning and some new habits, you can make progress (and even accomplish what seems like your biggest goals) while also feeling more fulfilled. Here are 7 ways to develop momentum and get things done.
1. Plan ahead: Contingency plan for roadblocks
2. Build in "sprints" for the days leading up to your big objectives: Make small tasks that will help prepare you for each day's big goal. For example, today I'm going run 4 miles so that on Monday when I run 13 miles it'll feel like nothing!
3. Set a timer and do things in sprints: I've noticed that when I'm working on something hard, if I just set aside a short amount of time to work on it at the very beginning of my day and then not worry about it for the rest of the day. This can help you get into a "flow" state, where your mind is hyper-focused only on that assignment. In this state you'll make progress much more quickly!
4. Don't give in to procrastination (this is probably obvious, but also important)
5. Reward yourself for milestones reached: Women are built upon external rewards. If you want to actually get something done, use some sort of reward system (small or big).
6. Change your environment: Changing my environment has always helped me to get into "the zone." If you're not feeling productive, try going somewhere else where you can be productive.
7. Set goals that are actually achievable: I've had the most success when I set small goals that are in line with my big goal, but that still give me a sense of accomplishment. For example, if I'm training for a half marathon, I'll often set the goal at 4 miles during my long run on Saturday. This makes me feel accomplished while still giving me enough time to do the 13 miles during my long run on Monday.
IN CONCLUSION
It's difficult to get yourself motivated and working towards your goals. It's even more difficult to stay focused and productive day in and day out. These are some of the things that I do to remain focused and productive. Hopefully you guys find these helpful!
