ADD: I'm Late!
Hi, my name is Addison and I am late. For anything and everything.
For the first time in my life, I have been left out of a group text for the most important event in our school's calendar because I simply could not make it. My phone went off in class- a function that once allowed me to avoid missing crucial people texts- but I forgot to silence it. When someone else brought up this oversight, they asked "Why didn't you turn your phone off?"
I replied with an exasperated sigh "It's an Android." It was then that they realized something strange was happening: they were losing me as friends on social media. I was ignoring their calls and texts. It was all because I had this sickness- this disease- called ADD.
I have had a love hate relationship with the concept of being diagnosed with ADHD for quite some time. Although I suffer from it, it has always been my greatest friend because it makes me extremely creative and imaginative, both of which are invaluable assets for a writer. At the same time though, I have also felt like it handicaps me from doing many things that others can do easily. That is what made me want to write my first novel, "We Will Meet Again," in the first place. I thought, "I bet I can write something that will make people understand and appreciate the struggles that come from having ADD." So, I set out on a journey of self-discovery and writing adventure.
Originally, the story revolved around a high school class trip to Fiji. Because of ADD it never happened. Then one day something miraculous happened: my book was published by one of my favorite publishing houses and it debuted at #4 on Amazon's children's fantasy/adventure section! That got me really excited because it meant that there was an audience for my work. I was writing for that subset of people who loved adventure and fantasy but had ADD. So, I decided to create a sequel: "I'm Late! : The Chronicles of Adder Morrow."
It is set in the same world, but it follows a different main character: Adder Morrow. He has much of the same characterization as the main character from my first book, Dorian. He is very energetic and curious and as ADD sufferers we love to jump around in conversations and ideas. In fact, I am guilty of doing this right now as I try to tell you about my book on ADD because I always have to throw in tangents about myself and my life story.
Anyway, Adder and his friend, Nathan, are both very energetic and adventurous, but they are also very different characters. One day, Adder has to go on a school field trip and he becomes lost. This would not be a problem if he had been more cooperative with the teachers at this point and actually listened when they tell you that there is no need for him to go on the field trip. However, because of ADD, Adder ignores all the warnings about being late and does not listen to his teachers struggle to find him. This causes them all a lot of stress (and I mean this literally) because they have to find him before school ends or else he will miss the bus back home with everyone else. The ensuing chaos proves that people with ADD are more than just lazy and daydreamers.
I have had a lot of fun writing this book and I know that it will be great for kids and adults alike. Although I am still suffering from ADD, my novel allows me to show what it is like to have it. I hope to be able to write more books in this series, but in the meantime, all you have to do is grab yourself a copy of "I'm Late!: The Chronicles of Adder Morrow. The REVIEW:
"I'm Late!" is a children's fantasy adventure book that deals with the issue of being late and ADD. I read it in one sitting because it was so captivating, funny, unique and well written. This book was a wonderful read for the whole family to enjoy from young readers to older ages and those who love fantasy adventures! This book will be enjoyed by all ages with help from the author for helping him understand his time management issues. I would recommend this if you are looking for a good summer read, or a addition to your classroom library collection!

"I'm Late!" is a great book for kids who are on the verge of losing friends on Facebook, or those kids who just don't care and miss school events, such as field trips. I liked the humor in this story and I think you will too. The writing is so good that it's hard to put down the book! A great find for all ages.

"I'm Late!" is an excellent book! As someone with ADD myself (and a long time writer), I can see how it would be difficult to write a story that illustrates the issue of ADD so well, but Mr. Sheridan did it with an amazing grasp of the topic and characters.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, and I hope to see more from this author!
