Control in Time Management

 Control in Time Management

Time management can seem like a daunting task, but there are a few simple steps that will help you to be more in control of your time.

First and foremost, set your priorities. What is most important to accomplish in each day? Be honest with yourself and focus on the tasks that need the most attention. There is no sense wasting time on unimportant tasks when there are so many important ones waiting for you!
Second, identify distractions. Tempting as it may be to sit back and watch TV or scroll through social media while you wait for something to finish up on your computer, those things are distractions that can eat away at precious hours of productivity. You may even find yourself spending more time on those distractions than you intended.
Pick a specific day and time to check email, social media, etc. By doing so, you won't be tempted to constantly check these things throughout the day and they will be there when you're ready to deal with them!
Third, schedule time just for fun! Just because you are working hard at being productive doesn't mean that you have to miss out on personal pleasures – just keep those fun times scheduled into your day. Schedule things like lunch with family or friends, exercise or reading in your planner. Treating yourself will help keep your overall stress levels down, which can be a big benefit to all areas of your life.
Fourth, remember that organization is key! Keep a planner with you at all times so that you can write down appointments, to-do lists and other things that you want to accomplish. By using your planner as a way to keep track of things, you should be able to see what needs to be done and what's already been done. You will also be able to keep track of time better this way too. Keep your planner up-to-date and make changes as needed each day.
Fifth, don't let procrastination slow you down! If there are tasks or activities that are important but take effort or motivation, just do them first thing in the morning. It will be both easier and more fun to accomplish!
Finally, don't forget to ask for help if you need it! We all have those days when we are just not on our game. There is no shame in reaching out to someone for support or advice. If you need some ideas or suggestions about how to best manage your time, a certified life coach can help identify where the problems are and guide you towards the solutions that are right for you.
One thing that is certain is that too many people over commit themselves, delay getting started with tasks or become too involved in secondary activities.
Although there are various time management techniques such as the Pomodoro Technique and the Eisenhower Method, you don’t need to become an expert. You just need to learn enough so that you can be in control of your time instead of letting it control you.
See below for a productivity checklist:
• Are you motivated?
• Do you have a clear path forward?
• Are you productive consistently?
• Do you know how long it takes to complete tasks?
• Are you able to focus on your most important task?
• Are there any secondary activities that take away from your main task(s)? If so, cut them out or reduce them.
• Does your activity log reflect where you really spend your time?
