Creating The Right First Impression
Most people make a huge mistake when working on their first impression. Most people make the mistake of trying to reflect who they really are. Most people try to be themselves or some kind of impersonation and start off with an inaccurate first impression.
The right first impression is one that you act in character and create real impact with. It's one that makes your target react positively instead of indifferently, but it's also one that reflects your true personality exactly as you'd like it to be perceived by others.
It has to be bold, dirty or otherwise taboo. It can't simply be a picture of you doing something normal, boring or natural. It has to be something that grabs attention, makes people want to talk about it and want to know more about the person behind it. Most importantly, your first impression has to create a strong first impression.
Your clothing helps form the first impression you make on others. When trying to create a perfect first impression of yourself as an accomplished photographer, make sure you wear clothes that are clean and presentable with not too much print or shapes. The use of solid colors helps your clothing to not stand out in a negative way.
For accessories, try to wear jewelry that complements what is already present in your clothing. Don't wear flashy accessories or bright colors as it will stand out and possibly take away from your clothing's looks. Don't go with accessories that aren't easily interchangeable or match the color scheme of your clothes. For example, if you wear a black shirt, don't go with a yellow bracelet or necklace as they will easily be noticeable and unmatch the color scheme of your clothes and could come off as obnoxious.
Make sure to keep accessories at an appropriate length so they fit comfortably with what you are wearing. Don't wear too many accessories as it will make you look cluttered. Try not to show too much skin either.
In addition, try to style your hair accordingly. Simple hairstyles that are clean and simple are the best styles to wear at a time when you're trying to create a first impression of yourself as an accomplished photographer. These styles give off a professional look but can be easily changed if you don't like how it looks or if the hairstyle is uncomfortable for long periods of time.
With these guidelines to creating an effective first impression, you can show your potential employer that you are a dedicated and professional photographer while at the same time helping to create your own unique brand.
