Desire, Fuel for success: How to Keep it Alive and Burning Strong
The desire to achieve something is the fuel that drives people forward. Failure to have a burning desire for success can be career-ending. Managing that motivation can be a difficult task, so here are some tips on how you should go about it:
* Decide what you want and start with small goals in mind. If your main goal means leaving your current job, don't worry! You need to take baby steps in order to make it happen. Realize that changing gears from day-to-day life is not an easy thing and will require patience and commitment on your part if things don't work out right away.
* Plan your strategy of action. The majority of people will have success only if they plan in advance what they are going to do, and that includes you. Decide on your goals and start by doing the things that lead you to achieve them.
* Visualize yourself having achieved your goals. Use all possible platforms, from realistic ones to the ones that are fun and even silly, but let it be known that you are going to achieve your big aspirations. By this I mean look at yourself in the mirror or put a photo of you with your career goal in a prominent place on the desk and write down every day how you will be achieving it.
* Be prepared for everything. Be ready for challenges, for mistakes and for setbacks, but also be ready to learn from them. If you don't have a plan B, you're doomed to fall flat on your face every now and then.
* Forgive yourself if you make mistakes. Learn from them, move on and make sure they don't happen again. Keep in mind that failure is part of the learning process in this very human endeavor called life.
* Remember: Your greatest enemy is time. You have only so much of it left before you forget about the big goal and go back to old habits or goals (which are never very worthy anyway). You need to stick to the plan, be determined and put all the focus you can on achieving it.
Consider yourself a warrior in a never-ending war between your big plans and time. Make sure that you win this fight!

Conclusion
The concept of the "Growth Hacker" is not new - I can't say I've never heard of it before. However, it's really shaking up the marketing and innovation world lately, so I think it's definitely worth a shot to take an in-depth look at key people in this new movement.
I wouldn't call myself a "growth hacker", but I do work with startups and small businesses and create best practices for how to drive customer acquisition for this sector. Unfortunately, small business owners often don't have enough time or resources to optimize their customer acquisition channels. There is a lot of talk about "growth hacking" but very little action when it comes to taking some practical steps that would help you achieve growth.
