How Time Flies When I Am In A Hurry

The phrase “time flies when you’re having fun” is truer than we may realize. Think of all the time we spend rushing around, stressed with deadlines and meeting expectations! We are in a constant state of hurry; we never have enough time to do what needs to be done. But, sometimes it's just not possible to stop and smell the roses — err...slow down enough to catch one. After all, sometimes things just need to get done!

How much more time would you have if you carved out some of your hectic schedule? How much more productive could you be? Perhaps it's time for change — a change in pace or maybe even a change in profession. If you are thinking it's time to consider a career change, then it’s time to sit down and take an honest look at your current job.

Do you enjoy what you do — even when you hurry? The longer you are in your career, the more time that passes. If you stop to think about it for just a minute, how much will have flown by since you started? Be honest with yourself...how much of that time was spent happily or unhappily? Ultimately, if you are not happy with your work and the pace that goes along with it...it may be time for a change!

There is nothing wrong with wanting more out of life. We are never satisfied. We always want more time, more money, better health, time with family and friends and so on...looking for the 'promised land' where we will be happy at last.

But life is not meant to be a race or a competition. Life is meant to be enjoyed! If you’re not happy with your current work situation, it may be time for change! Change can do more than just change your job — it can spark a change in who you are. It can change the way you think about yourself and the way others perceive you...which can have an impact on everything concerning your life: career, relationships, home and health. When you are truly in a hurry and have as little time as possible, it can be even a challenge to go to the next level of change...which may require a lot of thought. But it is worth it!

So how does one begin to put all this into action? If you think about some of your goals for the future, you may come up with many different things that you would like to accomplish. Do any of them involve change in your current job or career? If so, do not panic! With a little forethought, there are steps you can take — starting with your present company.

Take some time to look at your present company, where you work and what you do. Are you happy? Do you like it there? If not, how much time did you spend unhappy during each day at work? Perhaps it's been even a longer time — six months or two years or twelve years? That will be a long time to be unhappy...what if that unhappiness has affected other things in your life? Is it possible that your level of happiness is affecting the way others perceive you — including yourself...you may even think less of yourself! What if everyone else was dissatisfied with their jobs — and they have accepted this fact but you have not yet realized this is a problem for them too. If so, you may be facing a company-wide problem that may have serious repercussions.

If the negative feelings are affecting your health and happiness, it may be time to take a proactive approach and make a change — for the sake of yourself and your family!

One of the steps you should take is to think about what might be some reasons for dissatisfaction. This way, you can discover if your unhappiness is with your present company...or even your present position or job. You may find that you have unreasonable expectations of what a company or the boss can provide you, that the job itself is not a good fit or it may even be the hours and responsibilities that are causing you unhappiness.

If unhappiness is due to your career choice itself...or even if you are happy with your current position but unhappy with your career choice, then it may be time for change — perhaps to re-direct your interests and skills to fit a new professional path into a new line of employment.

Now, let us face some hard facts about how life really works. There are only so many people a company can hire. And there is only so much money to pay them with. There will be competition for any jobs that do open up. This means that if you decide to make a change, you are going to have to act fast and with determination!

If you decide it is time for a change, it would be in your best interest to spend some time considering your options — particularly if you are unhappy with your present company or job. There are some good reasons to consider making a change — and some not-so-good reasons. It is important to look at the positives and negatives of any change, in order to be sure it will be for the best for you personally.

Consider the following:

What does your present company offer? What are your benefits? What about working conditions and opportunities for advancement? Are there too many people in your same position or similar positions, maybe even within the same company? This could also mean too many managers...with no one really having control over their own schedules and day-to-day responsibilities.

Is the company successful? If not, does this directly affect your job? Is there a chance for advancement or additional responsibilities for you? What about your job responsibilities and duties — are they reasonable and realistic for your experience level? Are you being paid fairly? Does the company offer opportunities for training or educational opportunities beyond those required to keep up with citizenship and management requirements? What about training in other areas of your job that may be needed to make you more proficient in your present position. What other continuing education training is available if new technologies need to be learned that could assist you in performing your duties better.

When a company is expanding, jobs can be created at a faster pace than normal...and sometimes at higher levels than usual. Are you following developments and keeping up with the latest in your profession? If not, now may be a good time to start!

If you are satisfied with what your present company offers, you will have to consider if there is anything more that you need in order to make your work experience more rewarding. In other words, what can your career offer you? Taking a few minutes to honestly assess this question may pay off in the long run. If there is something missing from your present company or job, it would be wise for you to start thinking about making some changes sooner than later. You may not want change — but change has a way of happening!

There are many reasons why people make a change...

Conclusion -

If you decide to make a change, you will need to consider the positives and negatives of each situation. You will have to put some thought and study into what is possible for your new career path. You may need to also consider the company policies and procedures...as well as your opportunities for advancement, training and education. Each change that you make is going to affect your life. Take some time on this issue...think it through carefully and take action with confidence! Talk it over with your family, ask friends for advice or take a professional consultation team-on-team advice about the best choice for you — whether that be a job change or moving into another career direction.

There are no guarantees in life.
