How To Handle Criticism?
Do you always feel like your opinion is the only correct one? Are you constantly making the same mistakes? Do people around you always seem to pick on your ideas, helping themselves to the spotlight even when they’re not really giving anything back in return? If so, take a look at this article about how to handle criticism, which will help put an end to these offenses.
A criticism is a statement that says, “This part of you isn’t working and I’ll tell you how to fix it.” It's an opinion about an aspect of someone that can't be changed, so it's not relevant, and it's thrown away by the person receiving it.
How To Handle Criticism?
A criticism starts with the word “You”. That is a very strong word, like a missile going for impact on your self-esteem. Even if a criticism seems to be addressed to someone else, it is your brain receiving the information.
The next thing you need to know about criticisms is that they are not about fixing anything. A criticism will never help you correct your actions because it does not address the cause of your actions. Speaking specifically, “I noticed this mistake” is an observation that says nothing at all about the actual cause of the situation.
"You made a mistake. I'm pointing it out."
This is one of the many things that only the two people involved can change, and yet it is a complete waste of time. The critic can tell you what to do and how to do it, but they have no idea how you feel. You have to do this yourself, or accept that you'll never learn anything and never improve yourself.
