Look Good - Feel Good

 Look Good - Feel Good

The world has changed rapidly in the past few years. With just a flick of your finger, you can have a drink delivered to your doorstep and have dinner with someone on the other side of the world by video chat. Mobile phones are replacing landlines and film cameras alike, and people are taking more selfies than ever before.

On the other hand, you can also take part in an event that celebrates the beauty of people and their differences. This month's article presents our city's inaugural 'Look Good - Feel Good' event.

The Look Good - Feel Good Project will be a nationwide initiative to encourage Singaporeans to come together, to find the beauty in each other and to celebrate the diversity that unites us all as Singaporeans, and as individuals.

This month, a Look Good - Feel Good beneficiary will be chosen for each major district in Singapore. Special activities will be organised for them to celebrate their diversity and beauty.

Each of the six districts have their unique stories and cultures, which makes each individual unique in his or her own way. Each district has its own inspiring story of immigration, success and hope that will resonate with Singaporeans.

The first district to be chosen is the East Coast District.

At the other end of the island, a large proportion of its citizens are immigrants. There's always been a strong sense of community in places like Geylang and Kallang, where many people have come together to build this vibrant place to call home.

This initiative will celebrate their differences as well as our similarities. We hope that it will encourage Singaporeans to come together, to find the beauty in each other, and to celebrate the diversity that unites us all as Singaporeans, and as individuals.

Date: Saturday, February 20th

Time: 10.30am - 12.30pm

Venue: East Coast Community Club, West Coast Way, off Cluny Road (near HDB Hub)

This month, a Look Good - Feel Good beneficiary will be chosen for the Ang Mo Kio District. Ang Mo Kio is known for its diverse communities and its vibrant street life. There are many different cultures present here - Malays, Chinese, Indians and more. The next generation is fast becoming more cosmopolitan as well in terms of language and food. Ang Mo Kio is also known for having some of the most innovative projects in Singapore and is often described as a "tech-hub".

Date: Saturday, February 27th

Time: 10am - 12pm

Venue: Ang Mo Kio Community Club (near Ang Mo Kio Town Centre)

In order to help people learn more about our cultures, we are organising a photo exhibition at the Ang Mo Kio Community Club. The photo exhibition will showcase photos taken by residents in their respective ethnic groups. Just a stone's throw from the Singapore River, the exhibition will be held at the Ang Mo Kio Community Club, which is located in a very accessible location.

There will also be activities for people to participate in:

Kebaya fashion show - A fashion show featuring traditional costumes from various ethnic groups living in Singapore. The models will be showcasing Kebaya clothing, an Indonesian traditional costume for women. This will allow people to appreciate the different designs and styles of Kebaya.

Sarong Song and Dance - Sarongs are seen everywhere in Singapore. There is one for every occasion: For formal events, for casual wear, for traditional celebrations, etc. This performance will showcase a variety of different Sarong songs from all over the world. The performers will also include members from the various ethnic groups living in Ang Mo Kio.

Dancing with a Twist - The exhibition will showcase a variety of photos depicting dance from different ethnic groups in Singapore. Everyone is welcome to join in, learn the moves and show off their best moves on the dance floor!

Lunch & Learn - Find out more about some of the various cultures that are present in Ang Mo Kio. The lunch will be designed to allow people to get together, share a meal and learn about each other's cultures.

This event is organised by DYSFUNCTIONAL STUDIOS and ADE PR.

Conclusion

Over the past few decades, Singapore has become one of the most multi-cultural societies in the world. We work hard to make sure that our diverse communities are not just respected, but embraced. To that end, we have to understand and appreciate our various cultures and traditions before we can begin to break down prejudices.

With this event, we hope to bring out even more diversity and celebrate the values that unite us as Singaporeans.
