Saturn Returns - Name And Title Changes

Saturn returns every 29.5 years, or approximately once a generation, to the position in the sky at which it was when a person was born. The 13-year cycle of Saturn's return is generally referred to as the "Saturn Cycle.”

The following chart lists the planetary positions for Saturn at midnight for each year. The planet’s position is at the intersection of the ecliptic and the zodiac, not in front of any sign. This is a simplified version of the chart listed below, which shows all eight (8) signs of astrology.

Saturn is not associated with any specific astrological signs. However, it is commonly said that Saturn has "a lunation in every sign.” In other words, this planet crosses the cusps of the zodiac signs approximately every year. Of course, Saturn transits the ecliptic which is defined by four different reference points: the vernal (spring) equinox, summer solstice, autumnal equinox and winter solstice.

Astrology: The Birth Chart
The astrological birth chart is a kind of celestial roadmap that shows where these planets/stars were located in the sky when you were born. A few (very few) notable exceptions to this rule are stars that have planets of their own, such as the star Regulus, which has its own planet in orbit around it - i.e., Jupiter.
In the majority of the charts in this article, Saturn will be associated with the sign of Taurus, its traditional position at birth. This will be indicated by the letter “T” as in T-square. The astrological sign of Taurus represents the body, particularly the feet and legs.

The Fixed Stars Are Relative, Too
Fixed stars are visible points of light in the night sky that are believed to have an influence on human affairs. These stars appear to be fixed in relation to each other but they really come into view from Earth only when they are aligned directly over their position on the celestial sphere.

In the majority of charts in this article, the fixed star Facies will be associated with Saturn. This Arabic name means face, appearance or character. Facies is a common name for a pattern that resembles an eye chart and can also be used to define “the places of some planet” such as Saturn. At the moment of birth, Saturn is “in aspect” to this star by diurnal arc (60°).

The Astrological Body Parts Are Fixed, Too
Many of the above planet positions and aspects can also be related to other astrological body parts. For example, Saturn is below Neptune in the sign of Pisces which is associated with the feet and legs. The planet Uranus is above Saturn in Scorpio which represents the genitals. The angle formed between these two planets at birth defines the “magnitude” or size of a particular part of your anatomy and hence, your personality type.

Of course, the planets in your birth chart also can be associated with personality types - constellations and astrological signs. Astrological personality types are based on the influence of one or more planets on your chart. Your dominant planet is what we call the "spring star" which influences all or part of your personality. For example, if Saturn is the spring star in your chart, you may be described (quoted) as: "The dominant sign or planet (i.e. Saturn) will give the character of the person." (Aspects of Natal Astrology, William Lilly.)

Everyone also has a ruling planet which signifies their inner nature or essence. The ruling planet is the one in your birth chart that rules your astrological sign. For instance, if you are born with Saturn in a cusp of the sign Pisces: "Saturn rules the Pisces, so that those born under this sign will have Saturn for their dominant planet and its character for their ruling one.” (Aspects of Natal Astrology, William Lilly.)

In addition to the signs, the planets and astrological bodies also influence other parts of astrology such as: houses, aspects, transits and solstices. These are all described in greater detail below.
The Astrological Houses Are Also Fixed Stars
The planets also impact other elements of astrological house analysis such as: aspects, rulerships, signs and houses. In fact, all of these factors are related to each other. This is why it's important to see each of these elements as relative instead of fixed.

Conclusion:
The planets are relative in astrology, as are the signs of the zodiac. This is why there is so much flexibility and diversity in astrological techniques and interpretations. The time has come for a new generation of astrologers to re-examine these "facts" about astrology and discover new, more flexible methods for analyzing personality types based upon the shifting position of planets in our solar system.
