The 7 Steps To Achieving Your Goals

In this article, I'm going to give you seven steps to achieving your goals. These are simple steps that can be carried out over whatever period of time you choose (from the next few days or weeks to the rest of your life).

Remember that what is important here is that you follow these 7 steps, and use them in order. If you do this, you will get ALL of the benefits – you'll know that you are on your path to achieving the goals in your list, and you'll be able to rely on this information in times of trouble or confusion.

So let's get started!

Step 1: Decide What You Want To Achieve And Why You Want To Achieve It

This step is pretty straightforward. You have to decide what you want to achieve, and why you want to achieve it. This is really important! You might wonder why we're starting with this step rather than the next one of creating a goal list, but I think we should do this first because it is the very foundation on which everything else will be built.

You HAVE to be clear about what your goal is. The clearer you are, the more effective all your other steps will be. The clearer you are, the easier it will be to set up daily habits that will help you achieve your goal.

As an example, think about being kinder to others. What exactly do you mean by 'kindness'? Is it the act of buying someone a coffee? Is it writing a thank-you note? Is it helping an elderly person across the road? Whatever kindness means to you, write down what it is. Now write down why you want to be more kind. What is your motivation? Is it that you want to be a good person, or do you want to build up karma and get back better in life? Is it that you want to feel good about yourself and what you've done with your day? Whatever your reasons are, write them down.

Figure 1: My own goals (on the left) and my reasons for those goals (on the right).

It doesn't have be a long written list. You can just write down one line at a time.

As you write your list down, it might help to think of the first thing that comes to mind when you consider these two questions:

What do I want to achieve? Write down one word out of all the things that come to mind, even if you don't think it's perfect. Example: gratitude, happiness, helpful, grateful

What is the most important thing I can achieve in my life? Write down 1-3 words that you feel are the most important things for you to achieve. Example: healthy, spiritual, happy

Step 2: Write Your Goals On A Post-It Note and Stick Them To The Wall

The second step is to write your goals on a small piece of paper and stick them to the wall where you'll see them every day.

Conclusion: Don't feel like you have to be perfect at this step. Most people make a huge mistake here and try to write their goals down on a piece of paper. Haha! That wouldn't help at all!

Step 3: Create An Action Plan For Your Goals

The third step is to figure out an action plan that you can use to achieve your goals.
