The secret is that we all make mistakes, but it's what you do after you make them that counts. That is all that God requires of us. Nobody falls without being pulled down by his own hand--nobody falls in a way that makes him morally unacceptable to God. Maybe the difference between saints and sinners is just the willingness to stand up again and go forward with a smile on your face, saying, "I am sorry.”

—Billy Graham

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is, that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won’t.

—Mark Twain

Pain makes man think; and thought makes man wise; and to any man who has suffered, the quickening of his understanding by trouble is a benefit. … it is through sorrow, suffering, regret, grief and pain that we gain wisdom. There is no other way. These are God’s teachers—greater than any master in the world. And they are all gifts: no payment is required. They may be bitter gifts but they are precious.

It's not about money or position; it's about making a difference that touches people. That is success to me!

—Aristotle Onassis

—unknown

The greatest thing we can do for our children is to raise them to be happy and healthy. Children who are not happy and healthy are likely to grow up unhappy and unhealthy. This can have an enormous effect on their lives as well as the quality of their lives in the future.

We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.

Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. There is no disgrace in honest failure; there is disgrace in fearing to fail.

—Henry Ford

There's nothing like failure to build you up and give you an appreciation for success. It's what you do with your mistakes that makes a difference! Mistakes can often be your best teacher, if you let them. They certainly forced me to learn how to deal with problems and change directions quickly when necessary, which has been invaluable in my career and personal life. So I thank God for my mistakes (and so should you).

Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally. I think you are the same way, that's why we became friends in the first place! Because we were both doing what we loved. This is an important lesson for anyone, especially young people: Don't wait for life to happen to you. Go out there and make it happen yourself. If you want to achieve something, if you love what you do, the world will find a way to open up.

We must first learn the meaning and purpose of life, for life is love. Second, we must accept ourselves with all of our limitations and weaknesses, for how else can we love except by accepting the person that we are? Then finally we must accept others with their limitations and weaknesses with grace, dignity and respect. Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it eludes you. But if you let it settle upon your shoulder and kiss you, then it will be yours to keep. The most important thing is to see others happy and glad. That makes us happy and glad too. We are happiest when we help others on their way to happiness.

Conclusion

I hope that you have enjoyed reading this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Some of the stories are humorous, some are inspirational, others are challenging and others are downright alarming.

The themes that run through all of them, however, is the fact that we should never underestimate our ability to learn from our mistakes and there's a very good reason why we should treat our own mistakes with respect. Failure is not something we should be afraid of; it is something we should be proud to acknowledge and embrace as an opportunity for our success!
