Researchers are not certain about whether or not growing up or training with a particular type of non-traditional martial art (i.e. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc. etc.) can cause or contribute to the increase of aggression and violence in a child. Some researchers are promoting the idea that just the training and physical practices alone can cause a child to have feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety and anger. These feelings can lead them to commit violent acts on self and others. These researchers believe that the traditional martial arts like Ninjitsu, Juijitsu and Aikidu give students mental stability because of the traditional spiritual values associated with those martial arts.

Students who participate in non-traditional martial arts like Karate, Tae Kwon Do etc. etc.) focus more on physical training and less on the mental, spiritual and social aspects of their training. This is because many traditional non-traditional martial arts are promoted to the public as self-defense based martial arts that require students to pay for the classes. The students are not required to have a high level of understanding about philosophy or give up a lot of their time for training.

Some people believe that there is no connection between practicing non-traditional martial arts and violence in children. Some people believe that regular physical activity can help prevent childhood obesity and bolster self-esteem, while other people think it is dangerous for children to be around weapons or at least learn how to use them at a young age (Decker, 2009).

Many people argue that traditional martial arts are not only a form of exercise, but also a way to improve their students' mental and spiritual wellbeing. They argue that growing up in a traditional martial arts school will teach students about honor, respect, self-control and discipline. Furthermore, traditional martial arts have deep roots in philosophy and ethics. Many practitioners can relate their art to the philosophies/religions of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism (Hwang & Kang, 2004).

Some researchers also argue that physical activity can lead to reduced levels of aggression or can contribute to the reduction of violent acts because physical activity produces endorphins or "feel good" chemicals in the brain (Decker, 2009). Physical activity is also important for helping a child in the school system or a child who may participate in sports or other physical activities. The level of physical activity can influence how people look at things and how they respond to things. This can lead to improved social interactions and reduced levels of aggression (Decker, 2009).

Physical education for many students is not just about physical activities, but also about self-esteem, body image and healthy eating habits. Many youth do not get enough daily exercise or the type of exercise that they need. The lack of physical activities can lead to obesity among children and adolescents (Decker, 2009). Some studies show that students who are physically active are less likely to develop markers of disease such as high cholesterol. Studies also show that children who are physically active tend to eat healthier and are more likely to adopt a healthy weight.

Many people see the number of hours spent on the computer as the most important indicator of violence and aggression in children. Some researchers believe that it is important for parents to limit their children’s computer time in order to reduce risks associated with it (Decker, 2009). Parents often worry about their child's level of activity while they are playing games or doing other tasks while they are away from home. This can lead some parents to set time limits on the amount of time that their child spends online (Decker, 2009).

The way that the information is presented on the Internet where children can learn how to build bombs, watch pornography or false bomb threats can cause a child's self-esteem problems (Decker, 2009). Some researchers also argue that if parents keep track of their child's computer activities at home then they will have better control over what their children are doing online (Decker, 2009).

There are many different martial arts and many different types of martial arts. Most people would consider the martial arts as having to do with some type of hand-to-hand combat training. Martial Arts is a vast and diverse field that includes many different styles and techniques. Martial Arts is more than just punching, kicking and blocking (Sherman, 2004).

In the past, martial arts were used to protect a family or as an offensive weapon. Today, many martial arts are used to develop confidence and many schools also focus on developing self-discipline (Sherman, 2004). All martial arts have some type of self-defense aspect. The goal is for the student to learn how to defend themselves in a real-life situation if they had to.

Now a days most people consider martial arts as being more of an exercise than anything else. Martial Arts focus on physical training and techniques that can help people improve their health and wellness (Sherman, 2004). People can learn many styles of martial arts such as Aikido, Ju-Jitsu, Hapkido and Karate. These are just a few examples of different styles of martial arts.

Many people argue that the traditional martial arts are a way to practice a moral and spiritual code that will benefit their child's mental and physical health. Traditional martial arts have deep roots in philosophy and religion (Sherman, 2004). Many practitioners can relate their art to the philosophies/religions of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism (Sherman, 2004).

Mitchell Sherman (2004) defines Martial Arts as "a comprehensive system or collection of techniques for preserving human health and wellness.

Conclusion

There are many reasons why people choose to teach their children martial arts. This article provided a brief overview of the history and benefits of Martial Arts. Using an example of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it explained how this style can be used to reduce aggression in children. As with any study that is done on an issue, the conclusions or results will have to be interpreted and based on the results and what is being studied. As with any article that touches on any issue there are always multiple sides to most stories which leads to a wide range of opinions which leads to different conclusions. The research presented in this article was somewhat limited and included only one martial arts style.
