 Characteristics Of A Successful Entrepreneur

From the humble beginnings of a great idea, to the hard work and dedication required to make that idea into a reality – many people have tried to set themselves up as entrepreneurs. Although this is an admirable goal, it can be difficult for someone without certain key skill sets or knowledge about what entrepreneurship entails. So what do you need to know in order to set yourself up for success as an entrepreneur? That’s what we’re here for.

It would be wrong to say that the key to success as an entrepreneur is having an innovative idea or a checklist of steps to follow. To be successful as an entrepreneur, one needs a combination of skills and qualities. The first thing that we need to think about is your personal character. This is your general nature, and how you want to be perceived by other people. You probably don’t want to publicly advertise your weaknesses as a businessman – and you wouldn’t want people thinking less of you, so you need to go about it in a commendable fashion.

If you’re only interested in making money, then don’t be disappointed when people think you’re just looking for a quick buck. If you are willing to work long hours in the face of opposition, then people may listen to what you have to say. We can learn from those who set themselves up for success by working hard, and with honesty. It can be difficult to win the trust of customers and employees when you first start out as an entrepreneur – but this is something that needs your constant attention. If your industry is new, then it might not be worth trying out – but once you have conquered this hurdle, it’s time to move on to the next one.

Setting yourself up for this kind of success is essential – but it doesn’t matter how you do it, as long as you’re willing to put in the effort. And if you can get others to follow your lead, then they will be able to do the same thing. The best thing that you can do is to be nice to all other people, and work hard towards your goals at all times.

Do your research and focus on experiences that will benefit your goal in life. Be willing to work hard, and use your abilities to their fullest potential. Go beyond just money – working towards something bigger than just money. You can make your mark on the world – just set yourself up for success first.

A Leadership Story – How I Got There

You may have heard of the following story before... but believe it or not I have experienced these same events since my early childhood all the way up until now as an adult and a middle aged woman living in Southern California.
My name is Toni Adams. I am a mother and wife, with two husband's and three children. I am a 32-year old middle-aged woman who is currently in her second decade of entrepreneurship, having been in business for about seven years.
In a nutshell, I am a lot like you – just with one very big difference... I had someone who taught me how to be a leader and how to be an entrepreneur! If this sounds familiar, it is because my story is told throughout the world via CompTIA's Web site titled "I Got There." You can read more about my story on their site by clicking here or at the following location .

Many seem to think that being an entrepreneur means you are taking an important step in your life to make a name for yourself, to make a little money, or at the very least – not take one. In reality, however, being an entrepreneur is about much more than making money. In fact, for me personally, entrepreneurs are the most important people in our lives! We start businesses because we have experienced a tough life and have felt the need to share what we have learned with others so that they too can gain from the same learning experiences.
I have always been a leader. I guess you could say that I was born with it... and it is my greatest characteristic. In the world of business and entrepreneurship, everything is about relationships. This is how life works. People in this world will always be looking to you as a leader – they are looking to follow you, they are looking for direction and advice. This is why if you are an entrepreneur, you have to be able to lead and provide direction. You have to be able to "direct" your business – not leave it up to others... I know that sounds crazy, but think about it for a minute...
Let me give an example of why all this can be so important... In 2005 I had just graduated from the University of Southern California with a business degree. I graduated with honors, and with many other certificates including a Certificate in Accounting, a Certificate of Specialized Graduate Studies in international business and marketing, as well as certifications for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam prep.
I was hired into a large publicly traded company as an internal auditor. I enjoyed the experience – but within six months I decided that this was not where I wanted to be in life. Internally, it was clear that this company had no vision or leadership – the employees were down right pessimistic about the future! This was not where I wanted to be. So what did I do? I started searching for other opportunities.
To make a long story short... I was quickly recruited because of my experience to join another large publicly traded company that was going through a downsizing, and where I could be the bridge between my team members as business development manager. This is when I realized that this was not where I wanted to be either.
I then decided that I wanted to become the "leader" in my life... What did this mean? It meant that instead of focusing on people, and on them relying on me – it meant that instead of "doing" things for others – it meant that I needed to learn how to do them for myself so that I too could enter into a leadership position... and that I could have a real impact on the world.
I quit my job in order to go back to school in the evening and get my Master of Business Administration (MBA)... I just knew I wanted to teach others how to be successful, and how to take control of their life and make changes along the way.
I decided that I would hold a series of seminars for women entrepreneurs in Southern California – so that I could help them start new businesses and become financially independent!

My first step was selling tickets for the series of seminars – this is when I realized that most people were afraid to become entrepreneurs (and started having second thoughts about starting one myself...

Conclusion
As you can see, I really did not have a mentor to show me the way forward – and I had to learn how to be a leader by actually going out there and doing it! This is why an entrepreneurial finance program, such as CompTIA's , can be so beneficial.
I would recommend this program for anyone who is looking to become a leader... it is much better than sitting and reading books all day. It teaches you what you need to know about business, marketing, accounting, and much more... plus the webinars are great!
I am always available via email at toni-adams@comptia.org if anyone needs me...
