 Santa: The Consummate Entrepreneur

"Dashing, daring, and down right charming" — this could be a slogan for Santa. The red suit? That's his personal trademark. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer? He made him famous. Christmas gifts for all? He'll do it in one night!

That's right — if you want to know about marketing, look no further than the world-famous Santa Claus! Through this blog post we will explore the finer points of entrepreneurship through Santa as a case study. We're going to take a deep dive into what makes him successful and find out just how we can apply these lessons to our own lives (and come on, who doesn't want that?).

But first, let's take a look at how Santa is a good example of an entrepreneur, and what makes him such a great role model.

What is entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship can be defined as the act of planning, creating, starting and managing a new business or endeavor. It is something that most people can relate to, because we all have success stories about the things we didn't want to do that eventually turned out great! Aren't there some things you've put off doing for way too long (or something you dreamed about doing but never followed through on)? Well, here's your chance to make those dreams come true! This can include anything from starting a blog to opening up your own business.

When Santa tells us what he will be doing that evening, he is really telling us about his business plan.

"I will be delivering presents to all the children tonight." "I will be visiting the children in their own homes." "I will be watching the children and making sure they are having a good time." "I will be going door-to-door with my reindeer and sleigh team to make sure I bring you presents!"

Every phrase above is an example of entrepreneurship, and as you can see, it's pretty ambitious! So let's take a look at some of the components that make up his business plan. First up — planning.

The importance of planning

Well, Santa has to plan out his entire schedule, right? If you've ever seen him running around on Christmas Eve, then you know how important this part is! Planning also includes things like making sure that he's got all of the gifts ready (and making sure they're wrapped nicely!) and checking off all the kids who are on his nice list. If Santa were a person, we could call him a perfectionist because he wants things to go right and according to plan (as much as possible). As an entrepreneur and business owner, it's very important that you have a plan in place so that your company does not run into any snags in the road.
