 6 Factors Of Career Success

Everyone has dreams about their future, to be successful in a job that not only pays well but also makes them happy. If you want to achieve career success, there are some things you should know before you start your career as an individual or as a team leader.

If you follow these six factors of career success, then your chances of achieving this goal are higher than ever:

- Make sure that the position is relevant to what you studied - for example if it’s in marketing, make sure the degree is marketing-related.

- Work hard.

- Deliver results.

- Commit to the organization/team/company.

- Stay focused and determined.

For every job search there are usually three angles that can be taken: applying for the job, applying for a promotion and applying for something else in the same industry. The most obvious way is to apply for a job description and then go to work there - but this method is more time consuming and risky than trying it out for a position first before applying.

Try this method if you’re worried about applying for a job directly: The first step is to compile a ‘wish list’ of things you would like from the job. A high ranking in the company, good work atmosphere and better pay are some examples on what to put on the list. Then find out which companies at your current workplace offers that kind of environment and results. Report your findings to your boss, so they can think about it too.

On the next level you are looking for an opportunity within these companies in form of project or a short term assignment. This is where you start to make contacts and get information about the company. Don’t try to make yourself too busy at work and then apply for company jobs, be creative and find a good reason for taking a break: something that will also benefit your employer in the future.

If you haven’t happened upon any opportunity at first, then look around your industry: Companies usually have plenty of competitors who are looking for individuals with certain skills or experience. Try out these companies one by one - even if it’s not directly related to your field of study - and get to know them well before applying for a job there. This way it saves both parties time and effort.

Once you’ve tried these methods and still can’t find any opportunity to get a job, then try looking for one outside of your field. You can use the skills and training you learned in college to improve your chances at getting a job that is something completely different from your studies.

After doing all of this and still not found a good opportunity, don’t hesitate to do some networking. Don’t be afraid to ask other people for help: they might just have an idea or contact that you don’t know about yet.

Conclusion

Too often we confuse ourselves with the requirements of job description and ask ourselves what’s the point of our studies.

In reality, all you need to know is that they should help you to get a job - and you should find out how first before asking yourself if it’s worth doing it or not. This way, you don’t waste time on trying to study what you don’t really want to do.

Just make your bet and go for it! A career can be reached by many different paths and will never be obvious or simple: You must strive for success step by step, making sure that each step is ground-breaking in your own field...
