6 to 20% employers look up your social networking page
It goes without saying that social networking sites are a valuable resource, both personally and professionally. As such, it's likely that your employer will one day look you up on the networks you've linked to your professional account. Between 6 and 20% of employers do this--that's one in every ten to two in every five!
That is why it is important that your online persona be mindful of the image you want to portray as well as what information you share with others. By being proactive and protecting yourself now, you can avoid any potential problems down the road.

(1) I am not sure where they got their numbers from, and I could see a way to get the number down to 1 in every 10 employers checking your social media accounts. But 1 in every 5 is a bit far fetched. However, this is just an example of how companies look up candidates on social networks.
