In 2011, BearingPoint consultants worked with the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Public Policy to address one of the biggest challenges facing Georgia today. In a study titled "Georgia in 2030: A Scenario Planning Project," they explored how the state’s economic and social priorities might change over the next 20 years. The study forecasts that 536,000 more people will be added to the population while poverty will decrease and homeownership rates will rise to be among the highest in the country. Meanwhile, quality jobs in information technology, life sciences and renewable energy are created at an impressive rate. The potential for growth in Georgia is broad, but its challenge will be to improve the quality and affordability of affordable housing and transportation.

Following the completion of that study, BearingPoint consulted on Georgia’s 2011 Special Session, which addressed critical issues including anti-poverty efforts and transportation spending. The consultants also have worked closely with Governor Sonny Purdue on key initiatives including a state Business Development Department initiative to promote information technology and life sciences within Georgia and the expansion of the University of Georgia’s Information Technology Institute (ITI) in Athens to grow new jobs related to information technology in the state.

In the fall of 2007, BearingPoint consultants worked with the City of Atlanta to develop a plan that would address the city’s serious traffic congestion through 2035. The consultants and city officials identified four priorities in this plan:

The process began with a 60-day review period for public input. To address these priorities, Atlanta’s planning department developed and adopted a series of short-term projects within each priority:

Following a public hearing process that involved over 10,000 residents, the Mayor of Atlanta approved the recommendations, which include short-term action items and long-term planning strategies to help manage growth in the region.

Conclusion of Study and Report of the Metropolitan Atlanta Transportation Authority

Following the release of Atlanta’s 2035 Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP), BearingPoint consultants worked with a team to review and evaluate the plan. The effort included a review of current state statutes, a technical assessment of potential transportation issues through 2030 and 2035, an evaluation of potential funding sources for implementing changes to the plan, and identification and recommendation for short-term projects that would help to address desirable outcomes in the CTP. In order to prepare for future growth needs, which could occur once major projects were implemented, BearingPoint also performed an analysis on different land uses that could replace or complement development around MARTA stations.
