In March 2014, Pointview launched "ViewPoint," a business blog that covered topics that impact the startup and small business community. ViewPoint features articles written by staff writers and experts in the field of entrepreneurship; some articles cover topics like job hunting, marketing, social media and conferences/summit information. The blog is regularly updated on a weekly basis.
Beyond launching and maintaining Pointview, the company's primary goal is to promote startup companies and small businesses. To help startups grow, Pointview published an article series called "5 Ways to Build a Strong Startup Team." The series discusses:
The site also features a directory of startup blogs. Other resources include an archive of Startup Weekend events, an active Twitter account and a newsletter to inform readers about the latest news in the world of startups. The newsletter is free of charge and contains tips on building startups, ways to determine new business ideas as well as interview questions that people can use when they apply for jobs at startups.
Pointview offers a variety of products and services. Some of these include:
In 2012, Pointview was recognized by an educational institute for being a top publication. The site was named a "Top Magazine/Newspaper" in May 2012 by the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) -- the first and only Texas-based publication to receive this distinction.
The company also promotes its various products and services on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Conclusion
The Pointview team has over 10 years of experience in digital marketing, business news, content development and online journalism. In January 2015, the company moved its operations to Austin, Texas.
Wharton Entrepreneurship Council Award
In May 2014, Pointview was named a winner of the 2014 Wharton School at the University Of Pennsylvania’s 22nd Annual Entrepreneurship Competition. The company received this award for its startup coaching program titled “Startup Blueprint Workshop” – a course that teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to launch and grow their own startup companies using practical methods.
Founder: Paul DeRienzo
DeRienzo, a Harvard MBA graduate and veteran entrepreneur, co-founded Pointview in 2009 with former Reuters journalist John Underwood. The site was initially launched as a local news publication in Austin, Texas.
In January 2013, the company began operating as a digital publication and expanded its coverage of the startup and small business industry with new startups added to the site’s directory of startups.
At its peak, Pointview drew over 50 million page views per month and featured articles by leading figures in the startup community including Kevin Rose (Rotten Tomatoes), Robert Scoble (AngelList), Khosla Venture Capital and TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington.
The Pointview team also hosts various events each year as a means to bring new startups together and help them with their technology needs.

Startup Coach
The advice pointview offers is meant to help people at all stages of business. From small businesses to startups, the site helps them by offering information about how to start up and build a successful company: how to find investors, what industries they should focus on, how to find the right employees, and more. The site is particularly geared towards startups in the tech field; however because it only covers this one area of business, they are not editorially focused on any other field. They won a 2014 Wharton Entrepreneurship Council Award for their efforts.
In March 2010, Pointview launched an online business coaching program that helps business owners and managers run their businesses more efficiently and help them find the right employees. The program teaches its users how to manage time, organize a weekly schedule and deal with different publicity issues (i.e. interviews). In addition, it gives them resources on using social media as a marketing tool, as well as various tools to help them with online marketing projects. The program is currently in its third year of operation and covers both web design related topics as well as how to manage your relationships with potential clients.
In June 2011, the site launched a new course called "Startup Blueprint Workshop" that provides aspiring entrepreneurs with practical advice on launching and growing a startup. "The course teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to launch and grow their own startup companies using practical methods", said DeRienzo. The workshop is currently made available in person in Austin, Texas; however the company is working on implementing the program online in the near future.
Pointview hosts regular events to help startups build relationships and increase their business potential. The team behind Pointview has over 10 years of experience, both as journalists and within marketing, as well as an excellent network of resources to help entrepreneurs succeed.
The events are usually hosted in different cities throughout the country. Since its launch in 2011, Pointview has held 7 events to date in Los Angeles, New York City, Austin, San Francisco and Chicago. The company also hosts monthly meet-ups at the MacroVentures offices to promote startups with investors and mentors.

Some of Pointview's staff have started their own startups: "a wine site called Thirsty For Wine (http://www.thirstyforwine.com/) which was built on WordPress"
and "a content management system called The Ghostlight Project (http://theghostlightproject.com/)".
Pointview was founded by Paul DeRienzo and John Underwood in Austin, Texas in 2009. DeRienzo serves as the company’s CEO. The company has developed an extensive network of resources over the years that it has been in operation and currently has over 50,000 business profiles in its database.
Underwood is a Pulitzer-winning journalist who is knowledgeable about the startup and small business industry. He spent many years as a reporter for Reuters and USA Today before co-founding Pointview with DeRienzo.
The company has had several investors over the past few years. Its first round of funding was in March 2010 when it raised $300,000 from David Abrams, a venture capitalist with Abrams Venture Partners and Friends Capital. The second round of funding occurred in 2012 when Pointview raised an undisclosed amount of money from US Venture Partners and the New York Times Company.
