Four Common Sense Tips For The Telephone Interview

If you're a job seeker, it's likely that you've been preparing to make your telephone interview a little bit more 'forgiving' if and when you run into the situation of one of these four common mistakes. You may have thought that they would never happen to you... but they do. So let's talk about mitigating those mistakes with some good, quick tips for your phone interviews!

Four common sense tips for the telephone interview:

1) Don't fall asleep on the phone- Even if it is mid-morning or at night. People will think you're lazy and want to get rid of you. It's just not cool. So make sure you are fully awake, it's ok if you take off your glasses or get up to get a glass of water.

2) Don't put a full bladder on the phone- It might seem like a good idea in the moment, but it's not. You'll likely sound uneasy on the phone and who wants that?

3) Make sure you have time before your phone interview to review what you have written on your resume, which is called 'rehearsing.' Particularly important for introverts who need to relax and calm down before the phone call so that they can speak with confidence.

4) Don't be afraid to ask for help. Maybe by asking, you'll learn something that you didn't know and realize, "Hey I could ask them to explain this!" It's a good thing!

Why are these common sense tips so important? Well, they're important because they can do wonders for how the phone interview turns out and it may even put you at the top of the list. In fact, one of our recent client interviews was with a candidate who landed an offer from another company but didn't really have a chance to hear what we had to say because he kept falling asleep on the phone. So be prepared and don't fall asleep!

Hope this helps and good luck with your phone interviews. If you would like more tips like this, check out our blog!
