Freelancing In A Free World
Have you ever dreamed of quitting your job, doing work that you love, and living a life free of the chains of a cubicle? If so, you need to read this! We're talking about a world where there is no more boss breathing down your neck. This world might be closer than you think.
It started with the birth of the internet. The rise of home computing and a proliferation of personal computers led to a surge in freelancing and outsourcing. People, including myself, became independent contractors and were able to work from home or off site whenever they wanted!
Because more people were now able to access information, their expectations changed as did their lives. They didn't have time for a regular job anymore; they wanted freedom! They wanted to work when they felt like it, and what better way to achieve this goal than by freelancing?
Freelancing allows you to get paid for whatever you want! Whether that's working with horses or fixing broken washing machines, you can make money doing something that interests you. It's not just about making money, though. Freelancers enjoy higher levels of satisfaction and fulfillment and are less likely to get bored with their job.
Gone are the days where you're stuck in a cubicle or office all day long wishing you were somewhere else. Now that you can work wherever, whenever, and however much you want – wouldn't you like to?
Freelancing is great, but like everything else in life, there are positives and negatives to it as well. If you want to try freelancing, give these points a thought before jumping in:
1. You Will Have More Freedom
In a regular job, you're bound to your workplace, whether that's your house or a different part of the country. You'll have to commute and do tasks at certain times of the day. If you don't, you could risk losing your job.
While you're at home, a lot of your time is taken up by your family. You might even have to take care of them as well! If you want to spend more time with them, that's fine, but don't abandon your job completely. Don't neglect the work you were hired to do.
When freelancing you'll be free from the confines of an office or workplace; meaning no commuting and less constraints on what you can do. Freelancers can work from anywhere in the world and meet clients anywhere as well! This is a great benefit for those who live near airports as they can now fly where ever they like for work.
If you love to travel, freelancing is perfect for you. You can work wherever you go! I've been able to travel the world and see beautiful sights because of my job.
I'm sure many of you feel the same way about this as I do. With your own business, there are no more ties to an office or sitting behind a desk all day long. If you want to take a few days off from work, which is something you never could do with a regular job, then freelancing is perfect for you.
2. You Will Have To Manage Your Time
If you're constantly getting distracted by your family, friends, and other hobbies then you need to prepare yourself for a big change. With freelancing you will have to manage your time much more effectively; otherwise work will not get done which means no money!
There is no boss breathing down your neck telling you what to do! You are the master of your own destiny and how much (or how little) work gets done is up to you. There's a lot of freedom in that but it also means that freelancing can be hard if you're not used to handling responsibility.
This could be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for. It can be stressful if you're a procrastinator and like to play in other areas of your life. For example, it might be hard to convince your family that you need to stay at work late doing more work because it's your business and you need to do what's best for it.
For some people, the thought of being their own boss is so exciting; that they would rather face the pressure of managing their own time than continue working in an office where they don't have any say in how–or if–work gets done.
3. You Will Be Your Own Boss
There's no doubt that being your own boss is great for you. When you're working for someone else, you have to do things the way they want it or risk losing your job. If you don't like their idea of how things are done, then you get fired! Not knowing whether or not you'll have a job in a couple of weeks is a stressful situation.
When freelancing, you're the one who decides what gets done and when it gets done. You can set your own hours and create your own responsibilities as well as keep control of your work flow by delegating tasks to other members within the team if needed.
I've always wanted to be my own boss; something I never thought I'd get to do. I'm working on being a freelancer now, and I couldn't be happier. If you're thinking about trying out freelancing then give it some thought and see how much of a difference it can make in your life!
