 Job Vacancies

With the UK unemployment rate at an all-time high, many students are worried about keeping their jobs after graduating. But if you’re a student looking for work or know someone who is, you may be wondering what the best websites are for job vacancies.

When choosing a website to post job vacancies, you should look for a site that:

Can be trusted to secure your data. If there is any information you are not confident with, then it’s best to take precautions. A secure site will make you feel more relaxed and keep your data safe. A secure site will also let employers know they can trust the content being posted on the site. It makes you seem trustworthy as a potential employer. Can be effective at attracting all types of users. The majority of people looking for jobs today are not necessarily in direct employment, and can use this type of website as a place to find work online in an alternative way. If it’s a job seeker looking for a temporary role, you want to make sure that your vacancy would appeal also to those looking from within the recruitment industry. If it's an employer looking to fill a position, this will make them think twice about using your site instead of hiring a permanent employee. The company should have access to all relevant information. This includes the job description, application form and the location where you want or need to post the vacancy. It can be helpful if you can preview these in advance so you know what they look like before posting them on the site or being emailed by the employer.

Here is a list of the most trusted websites for posting job vacancies:

Glassdoor.com – this is an excellent place to post job vacancies, as employers can easily leave feedback on each vacancy they apply for. The website also has its own help feature that anyone can use and ask questions about their employment or the hiring process. The website is free to use and employers can choose whether or not they want to publish their feedback online. If you are looking for a temporary role, Glassdoor allows employers to post a vacancy for up to six months, so it may be some time before you find a permanent position but it’s worth sticking with the site for its fair opinions about employers and potential employees. SimplyTypeJob.com – this is a free to use website, which aims to link employers with students and graduates looking for work in the same sector. SimplyTypeJob also lets you choose whether a job advert is public, which means it’s made available on the website, or private, meaning it can only be viewed by those who have been invited. FreeTemporaryJobs.com – just as the name suggests, this is another site perfect for temporary vacancies, where employers can post up to twelve jobs for free at any one time. The main drawback of the site is that there are no employer reviews so job seekers don’t get a true picture of what their role would be like and how their potential employer operates. Jooble.com – this is another free to use site that lets employers post a large number of jobs as well as create their own job search engine. This can be useful because it allows employers to search for the kind of people they’re looking for (for example, a web developer) and then post the role directly on their own website. Idealo.co.uk – this website is particularly useful because it has a feature known as ‘Tech Tracker’ that allows employers to post up to 25 job vacancies every day if they pay £3 per day. It also gives you the option to upload an advertisement in PDF format and receive 1,000 views guaranteed for every ten jobs posted. This is useful because you can receive feedback from the public without having to pay anything.

If you are looking for a job within the recruitment industry, or want to know whether a particular website is trustworthy, then it’s always best to look at feedback from previous employers. Job description: a list of tasks or duties that are to be performed by an employee. [Source: Investopedia.com]

My tip: Be as specific as possible in your job description. The more specific you are the easier it will be for you to filter candidates and for candidates to know whether or not they are suitable for the job. The more specific you are also the easier it will be for someone who is not qualified to apply so that you can use their application to filter out other candidates with higher qualifications without wasting their valuable time.

Your job description will not just be written as a list of tasks you want to do, it also needs to be written so that you can hire and train others. Your job description should include specific objectives related to the business and the work environment (see The Job Description: A Step-By-Step Guide).

Avoid writing anything about salaries, benefits or scheduling. These are things that you can mention when you are recruiting for an individual position. Not only will this include your own salary but also that of any managers who have ‘supervisory’ roles in your company. This will make your company more attractive to many people who are looking for employment but would not consider themselves ‘manager material’. Candidates who are also considering job offers from organisations with different job structures will know what they are signing on for. You can explain to them in your interviews how they will eventually advance to a managerial position or, if that won’t happen, then you need to tell them that they will not be promoted.

The Job Description: A Step-By-Step Guide

Job descriptions need to clearly outline the roles, tasks and responsibilities of an employee and be suitable for candidates with a range of qualifications. Knowing what to include in your job description will help you clearly define the objectives of your business and the work environment for your employees.

In order to hire and train other people it is important that you can clearly outline:

The tasks or duties that an employee must perform; The kind of experience or qualifications they will need to succeed in the role; Objectives relating to a job’s contribution to the company’s overall direction, as well as how specific responsibilities are key towards achieving these objectives; Work hours, salary, benefits, etc.

If any of these areas are unclear then your potential employee(s) will be left confused about their role.

Conclusion:

By clearly defining the roles, tasks and responsibilities of each job you have a better chance of hiring and training employees who will be productive and stay with your organisation. Your descriptions can also help existing employees get more out of their jobs. This is because they will be given a clear idea of what is expected from them and how they can improve their performance.

A good resume does not have to be long, it just has to highlight the important parts of your career for the job you are applying for. You should write about what you have achieved, not what you have done – so focus on results, not process.
