How do I make up short runs of printed prints?
This Easy Guide will show you all the steps you'll need to take in order for publishers, printers, fulfillment houses and other retail sources to create limited edition merchandise with your design.
You can create a limited run of your print designs by following these easy steps:
1. Choose an image that represents your design, as in this example photo.
2. Print out the photo at the size you desire. In our example, we chose to print at 12 x 18 inches and on 110 lb paper. 3. Prepare the file by converting it to a PDF and flattening all layers by right clicking on the layers palette, selecting "flatten". 4. Place the image in a Photoshop PSD file and choose File > Save As... 5. Select Adobe Photoshop PDF 6. Name your file with a brand or trademark title, as in this example . 7 . Use the Photoshop software to create a high-resolution (300 dpi) file, and then save it as a TIFF file. 8. Send the file to your print shop indicating size and requested format (color or black and white).
9. Proceed with the printing process by following your print shop's guidelines. 10. After the printing has been completed, send it out for quality assessment. 11. If it passes the quality assessment, then send your file to the rest of your distribution channels, including retail outlets. 12. If it passes quality assessment and you are still happy with the result, you can release all copies of the print to be sold on iStockPhoto.
13. If there are any concerns with the print's appearance or color accuracy, resubmit your file to the printer for a second quality assurance process. 14. You can always use high-resolution images in a brochure or pamphlet for extra visual impact on small formats
