Newspapers At large

 Newspapers At large

Are you interested in the past? Do you want to read about what happened decades ago, or find out what's happening right now? There are a lot of options for newspapers to help you do this, but we're going to focus on just one: The New York Times.

With all of the printing press' news coverage and reports from around the globe, it is no wonder why The New York Times is often considered one of the best newspapers in America. So much so that when people talk about reading older issues of their favorite newspaper, they are actually referring to the New York Times archive rather than any specific paper. This is why the New York Times has an online archive.

The New York Times archive is a great tool for any historian. It contains everything from news articles of the past to its official timeline. There are newspapers to help you learn about history, national events, and stories that have happened today or yesterday (or even this morning if you're reading now!). The archives also hold a vast selection of photographs as well as ads and other print inserts that may not have been published in the newspaper. Overall, the archives are very valuable in that they give you an inside look at the world from one of the most powerful newspapers around.

About The Times
For a newspaper that is over a century old, it is surprising just how useful The New York Times archive still is to a modern historian. It is collected into sections such as politics, financial news, and sports. There are different newspapers for different time periods and it would be impossible to read everything in this archive in just one week.

So what are you waiting for? Get reading!

How To Use The Times
The New York Times has a few different sections to help the viewer find what he or she is looking for in the archive. One is a table of contents. This section includes top stories on a given day. This can be very useful if you want to read about a major event, such as the Chicago Fire or Pearl Harbor, but don't know when it happened. Another section is called "What's News." This usually contains major events that occurred in the past year or so that were big news stories at the time (and maybe even still talked about today).

You can also search the entire archive by specific dates, but this can only be done in a very basic way. You won't be able to search for specific events, but at least you can narrow down the time period you are researching. Besides using these three options, there is really not much else to it.

The Best Times
So what were some of the best times or parts of The New York Times archive? You will have to read them yourself and make your own conclusions. Some of the things that I found most interesting were when President Kennedy was assassinated, when man first walked on the moon, and when Barack Obama was elected president. There are so many other events that I could go on about, but you will have to take a look at them yourself.
