Nursing the Noble Vocation
Nursing a noble vocation is not an easy task. Awakening from a long slumber time, it is difficult to break out of the old habits and start from zero. However, people need nurses more than ever. And although nobody chooses this work for the money or social recognition, it's truly rewarding in many different ways. It will take time for you to adjust to the new life of your professional career that takes you away from friends and family for long hours at work. And some time to realize that you have become a caretaker and a mother figure for the patients and their families whom you need to support.
As a new nurse, it's not easy to make it through the first few difficult years. But if you're clear on your motives, things feel significantly better. Even though, I know sometimes even the best of us feel like quitting during those dark times. The struggle is real indeed, but keep in mind that nursing is more than meets the eye.
In its essence, nursing is love in action and it comes with great responsibility to help others by caring for them both physically and emotionally. It is not easy work, but it is rewarding. Making a difference in someone's life and giving them the best care possible is an important part of nursing.
After working for years in other fields, I felt very privileged to become a nurse. I am still in awe of life's gifts and the people I've met along the way. Nursing changed my life and helped me realize the importance of family, friends, faith, and love. As a newly trained nurse, my only regret was that I didn't know how much this job would mean to me when I first started out as a nurse.
You may feel thoroughly unprepared for the challenges you're about to face and part of you may wish that you'd gotten another degree. But as every nurse knows, nursing is not just about chemistry and anatomy. It's much more than memorizing facts and figures -- it is about taking care of people who have fallen ill or suffering from injuries or diseases.
A few years ago, I took a job as a nurse in general medicine. Without a doubt, this was the toughest job I've ever had and I didn't know how I would survive those first few months on the job. But like all good things, it got better with time. I began to thrive and truly enjoy my job. It was not just a job, it was a noble vocation that made me feel alive every time I stepped into the hospital ward.
I took to my new role as if it were something I had been born to do. It was somewhat like an extended family with all of us working together as one big team to help each other out and do our best in this field of medicine. As a reward for your efforts, you will find no greater satisfaction than looking after the sick, helping them heal and feeling proud of your work in the end.
I am happy that I am in this noble profession of nursing that is set to change the future. The field of medicine has come a long way since its inception and a lot of new technologies are being developed to make the treatment more effective and convenient for the patients.
Yet despite all the improvements in medical science, we still need human touch. We still need for people to be compassionate and care about other human beings who are suffering from one disease or another. They need us to hold their hands and walk with them on their road to health and wellness when they're down on their feet, shattered by the storms of life, and feeling lonely and overwhelmed by the complexity of modern medicine.
When a loved one is critically ill and needs help, if you are a professional nurse, you feel like your life's purpose was fulfilled. Knowing that you are helping them to recover is a great feeling and it's something that I have experienced many times in my career.
So please do not be discouraged when you start out your career as a nurse. Do not be afraid to follow the call of your heart even though it may seem too difficult to begin with. Once you've gotten past the initial struggles, nursing can be one of the most rewarding professions in this world.
Nursing is not easy, but it's hard to find something else that makes you feel this way all the time once you hit this job. I have worked in other fields that I was more passionate about, but as a nurse you will find yourself more fulfilled in this noble career of caring. It's a great feeling knowing that you are helping people and making a difference in their lives.

As a new nurse, I can share with you some of the most difficult parts of my nursing career. You may not face these situations out at work, but if you are one for your job, I'm sure you will face them whenever you're on the job and might even find yourself on your knees praying for help to come to them. I can ask the same of you if you ever find yourself in the same situation. Do not give up on your patients, do everything in your power to help them through their ordeal and never let them face it alone because they need a friend, a companion, and someone who will listen to their heart while they are being taken care of.
I have seen so many people face such situations and I know how much it hurts when you see someone's loved one struggling with a life threatening disease or injury. But as a professional nurse, you must do everything in your power to help them heal or make them feel better by managing their pain and nausea during the procedures. Sometimes, it is not possible to save them from their pain and suffering. Sometimes, you just have to let them seek their rest in the arms of angels.
The hardest part about my nursing career has been dealing with the death of so many patients during my time as a nurse. I could never forget that day when I saw my patient be taken away by the ambulance because she had passed away peacefully in her sleep. I am sure you will never forget it either if you have seen someone die in front of your very eyes and know that they are lost forever. I still see this haunting scene that has haunted me every time I close my eyes when someone has died too soon and I can't get rid of it no matter how hard I try.
I could not get out from under the ghost of memory when I was at work. That is why I always put a smile on my face even though I am dying inside. Sometimes, death makes your heart heavy and you may not be able to carry on with your job or you will find yourself crying in the day of your shift because it has become too difficult to stop thinking all that little things that you have left undone over the day. It may be an obsession to help others and forget about yourself, but it's an occupational hazard that all nurses have to deal with sometime or another in their careers and they should never take it too personally if they cannot cope with these haunting thoughts of death whenever they are on their shift.
Conclusion
I feel like I did not have enough time to tell you everything about my experience as a nurse, but I hope that you've been able to get a glimpse of the kind of job you can expect to have as a nurse. Nursing is a noble profession that will never let you down when you need it most.
Do not be afraid to face your toughest challenges and take in all your experiences in life with a smile on your face. They will make you stronger and more determined in the end because they know that no matter how difficult the task may seem, there is always something better waiting for them out there if they just keep fighting.
