Reservation Rewards - Travel Credit Card Review
Inquirer.net - Oct 4th, 2018- written by Ria Fernandez
Just like its other 'Reservation Rewards' counterparts – Reservation Rewards Visa and the travel credit card – the Reservation Rewards MasterCard is basically a co-branded travel card issued by Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Philippines in partnership with Citibank International, which itself has a wealth of experience when it comes to issuing credit cards in the country.
The card can be used just like any other credit card in the country but unlike most of the cards we get a chance to review here, it does come with a few specific benefits that makes it quite appealing for people who are looking for a frequent flyer-like rewards program on their travel spending.
While many people will just use their credit cards as they normally would and simply make purchases with them, there are also those who find it more convenient to use credit cards specifically targeted at flight awards. With its emphasis on frequent flyer miles (and points) redemption, you can use these rewards as 'boarding passes' once you've made enough flight bookings with your own travel agent.
On top of that, having a credit card that can earn you good rewards towards air travel can be a big help when you're trying to juggle your finances. While cashback on travel is always nice, frequent flyer miles can sometimes be even more useful for those who are planning their next vacation.
As a rule, you need to spend at least P250,000 annually in credit card spending to make the Reservation Rewards MasterCard worthwhile but with the earning rate being approximately 2-3% higher than what most reward cards offer, it's well worth it if you're planning to spend as much or more each year. The extra 0.5% or so of rebate is actually just as good as what you'd get with some of the other ledgers we review here.
On top of the usual spending requirements, there are also certain spending limitations that you need to be aware of while applying. First, you cannot have an aggregate amount payable on your Reservation Rewards MasterCard credit card that is more than P3 million including your annual balance limit (which is P2 million).
Second, the minimum amount you can spend through your credit card each month is P45,000.
Finally, there are also certain pre-set limits on how much money can be charged using your card. For foreign currency transactions, there's a limit of P300,000 per transaction. However for local currency transactions there's no fixed limit mentioned in the terms and conditions but you should try to avoid charging anything more than P1.5 million in the same day to stay on the safe side.
In general, thinking of credit cards as some kind of 'magic' answer to your problems is something you have to be careful with. While bonus points or frequent flyer miles can be more useful than cashback sometimes, they're not always going to be worth it every single time so make sure you know what you're signing up for before applying for any new card.

The Reservation Rewards program has been around for a long time and has long been one of Citi's most well-known programs in the country. Expanding its presence even to include credit cards, Citibank recently launched the Reservation Rewards Visa Credit Card that comes with all the usual benefits that comes with purchasing a card from them.

A new addition to the Reservation Rewards portfolio is the Reservation Rewards MasterCard, which is similar in terms of benefits and perks that come with it but comes with a different set of rewards as well.
For one, the main difference between this card and other travel cards such as those from HSBC, Mphasis and Standard Chartered Bank (owning Citibank) is that this particular credit card does not come with any cashback in reward points.
Instead, the main benefit of the credit card itself would be all the 'air miles' that you can earn on your spending.
