Slaying Your Time-Vampires
It's been a busy week. All your plans have fallen apart. You're stressed out, and you need something to calm those nerves. But after tossing and turning all night, when the sun finally rises in the morning you realize that because of your lack of sleep and procrastination, there is no time for anything at all!
This is where slaying your time-vampires comes in to play. It's been said that we spend an average of one-third of our day on mindless distractions like social media or television. That adds up to quite a bit of time wasted!
But don't worry, there is a way you can cut down on that time. Slaying your time-vampires will be one of the best things you'll ever do for yourself. To start, here are some tips and techniques that may help you.
1. Simply turn off your television or put away your phone when you no longer want to be distracted by them. Replace the mindless entertainment with something more productive, such as reading or writing, so that your mind doesn't get bored and wander to other things like it usually does whenever it gets too quiet.
2. Exercise in the mornings, which will eliminate a distraction from your life and even make you feel more productive because you won't be jittery and tired from being tired. This is also a good way to clear your head and feel more refreshed!

3. Take short breaks throughout the day to get up, stretch, and move around. Every few hours you should stop what you're doing and just stand up for a few moments to enjoy the fresh air outside or look around at how beautiful your surroundings are that passed by while walking past them. This will keep your mind focused on something other than whatever it was that was frustrating you earlier.
4. Have a list of things to do, and set timers or alarms to remind you to stop what you're doing and move on to the next thing. It's easy to waste time when we get caught up in what we're doing, but when we have something else that needs our attention, it helps us move on!
5. Take care of your health. If you feel sick or are under the weather, that is a perfect time for you to get your rest and recover. You will be able to focus better on what needs your attention once you feel better!
6. Don't check your social media accounts every few minutes. Limit yourself to checking your social media accounts once or twice throughout the day to stay in touch. Don't overdo it, because it can become distracting.
7. Make sure you have goals and/or a plan for what you want to accomplish that day, week, and year. It's difficult if not impossible to focus on very much if you don't know what you're focusing on!
8. Try not to procrastinate by using distractions like television, social media, and even other people for your fun time instead of taking care of things that need your attention. Make sure you're working first!
9. You really don't have to do a lot to be productive in the morning. It's better to get up and put your clothes on instead of sleeping in and wasting time when you could be working! Just take a shower, brush your teeth, make yourself some breakfast, and get dressed.
10. Remind yourself why you're doing what you're doing before you start. When you start to procrastinate, it's because there is something else that is more fun or interesting out there for you if only you had the willpower not to be distracted by it. If you remind yourself of why you're doing what you're doing, that can help motivate you to finish your task.
11. Remember, while it's okay to be distracted in moderation, it's also important that you don't get carried away with distractions or get stuck on one thing for too long (like a video game). You need to keep your mind sharp, so make sure it gets a chance to relax and wander but doesn't get too caught up in anything that makes you feel like wasting time!
12. If all else fails, take a nap! Just remember: Life is short and time travels fast. Don't waste an opportunity because of procrastination.
