Strategic Philanthropy

 Strategic Philanthropy

Every day, people of all ages and backgrounds are choosing to live with purpose by giving back to their community. As a millennial living in the greater Washington D.C. metro area, I can attest to the growing trend of strategic philanthropy. It's not enough anymore just to give money or time if you want impact on social issues; one needs to be strategic about how they give in order for it to have an effective outcome. Doing this gives your charitable dollars (or hours) a higher investment as well as more chances for success and impactful programming that will resonate with your values and needs as an individual or organization. Giving with a strategy of strategic philanthropy helps to make the world the better place through your actions.
Because of this new trend, I have begun my own journey towards being strategic in my giving, as well as reaching out to organizations that reach out to me with their strategic philanthropy campaigns. While I pay it forward and support causes closest to my heart, I am always on the lookout for charities that are looking for more strategic donors who are committed to making a difference in their community. One of these organizations is at-risk youth organization, Groundwork DC . Groundwork is a nonprofit doing strategic philanthropy for individuals, families, and communities to come together to transform lives. I was introduced to them in a post I did on an interview with Groundwork DC's Director of Operations, Heather Reece. This organization has been so welcoming and supportive of what I have been able to do through strategic philanthropy as well as their own grass roots efforts.
During my interview with Heather, I asked her some questions about strategic philanthropy and how Groundwork DC is engaging in this practice. I'll let you find out the answers to these questions in the video below:
(Side note: If you'd like to see the rest of my interviews on support organizations, you can find them here .)
Being strategic means that we are still thinking about how to change the world through our giving. In order for philanthropy to have a lasting impact, it needs to be carried out continuously while being planned with the future in mind. This means it is no longer just giving a dollar to a homeless person and hoping that they spend it on food for the day. It's about giving them resources for help and support in the D.C. community through organizations like Groundwork DC who can help them get back on their feet so they can be self-sustaining. Being strategic gives the people we want to help the chance to develop themselves in their own way, by using programs that will support them, such as job training or health education.
The more strategic you are with your philanthropy, the better chance of success you will have in achieving your goals and impacting change in your area of interest. For me, it is still about helping others and building a better community by living and empowering through my own actions through the support of organizations like Groundwork DC.
I am deeply grateful for this organization for reaching out to me, so I can offer them support and assistance with their strategic philanthropy campaigns. To learn more about this organization, visit Groundwork DC's social media sites below:

What's New?
Welcome to the new year, everyone! I'm excited to share with you what's going on with me and where I'll be focusing my time in the blogging world. First of all, I've made a few changes to the blog based on your feedback and my own personal interest. The biggest change is that from now on, posts will go live at 5:00 PM EST rather than at 5:00 PM PST like it has been for the past year or so. I hope this doesn't inconvenience too many people, but it was something I personally needed to do to make things easier on myself.
I will still be working on the blog in the same way, continuing to write about good causes, amazing organizations, and how to use your time and money strategically. My goal is still the same: offer free educational resources while helping others wherever I am able. I'm still accepting guest writers as well as organizations that are interested in collaborating with me on posts (more on this later).
Positive Vibes = Positive Life
In a nutshell, 2016 was a decent year for me. I'm not sure if I'll continue my blog for too much longer, but the positive vibes are here to stay in 2017. What's your plan for this new year? What are you hoping to accomplish with your own philanthropy, your volunteering, and with others in the community? The more I think about it, the more I'm excited to see what's going on out there and how we can strive to be a better community together. I'll continue on this blog for now and hopefully you'll be reading my content for a long time to come. - Danielle (aka Burntchildhorses)
What's New?
Hello everyone! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season! I know that I did! It was long, but filled with joy and blessings. As a believer in the New Year, I want to introduce myself once again as Danielle (aka Burntchildhorses). Thank you all so much for reading my stories, comments, and emails over the past year. I'm truly thankful to have each of you in this community that shares so much of its free information to the world.

Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed reading Part 2 of my three-part series on how to get the most out of your money, time, and energy. I know that it's all compiled into one book. However, I wanted to offer you each a look into various chapters in each part. This will allow you to take your time with what might be considered an overwhelming amount of information.
I hope that this was helpful for you, even if it's just a single line or two on what resonates with you most right now. As always, I welcome your comments and feedback here or through social media where I can continue to help you get the most out of the resources at your disposal.
