The Human Side Of Ad Tracking

Ever wonder about the person behind all those ads that show up for you on the internet? Sure, you’ve noticed the blinking trackers on websites and apps, but what do they really mean? Tracking is often so common that most people don't even realize they're being tracked. At first this may trick you into thinking it's harmless. But in reality, those tracking bugs mean companies can figure out your browsing habits and follow them around the internet to sell their products to you.

But there’s a dark side to this technology. Consumers can’t control how their data is being used, nor do they know why they're seeing ads. Some companies are also snooping through your browsing data without you even knowing it. In order to get a better understanding of these bugs, we spoke with the people behind them about what goes on in the mind of an ad tracker . . .

About the artist...

Patch Adams aka Christopher "Patch" Adams is a multidisciplinary artist working in film, installation, photography and performance. Educated first at the Art Institute Of Chicago (BFA), where he studied both painting and digital media design, he then moved to Los Angeles to study at UCLA Film School. There he earned his MFA in Film & Video in 1998. Is an internationally exhibited filmmaker whose work has been shown at international film festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Berlin and SXSW.

The tracks on the album are all (taken out of context) snippets of real life situations and conversations that i have had to listen to and have no choice but to hear. The thing is, the person whose story is told has done nothing wrong, yet most people will find them offensive. I wanted to paint a picture of the human race in it's true essence in which we all do things that might be considered socially unacceptable at times but we do it anyways. We are not defined by what society thinks about us, we are not our label. These songs show aspects of myself as a human being, with flaws from time to time as well as strengths that nobody can deny.

Below is a promo video I made, regarding the album & release of The Human Side Of Ad Tracking Project.

I have also created a 'visual' for the album, including front / inner and back artwork for the vinyl record itself. This also includes CD Packaging artwork. This was an experimental project; and although there are some things that i would change, i am happy to report that it has been very well received. On a personal note, i really enjoy the way it turned out. I am also happy to inform you that I am now working on the cover for my upcoming debut album as well! My label ( BUCK-FIFTY-RECORDS ) has been amazing in allowing me to use their artwork / promotion materials for this project, which has been phenomenal (they've been very supportive).

The LP's are now complete and ready for mass production . . .

The CDs will be arriving next week, however there was a problem with my label's manufacturing / shipping department which is why the release date is being pushed back.

Now then, i must apologize to all my fans who have been waiting a long time for new material. I will not be able to make the deadline of Jan. 1st . . . I will be releasing the project as soon as possible, perhaps within the next couple of weeks. The vinyl will continue to ship from my label in Feb. 2013 (at least that's what they told me) so you'll still get it before March. Patience is a virtue, and i am very excited about this record!

Sidenote: I want to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the years. This year has been very difficult for me, due to some unforeseen events, but i am hoping to recoup and repair these days. I may not make it back up to New York in time for NYC PopFest, but i am definitely coming back this November. As always, i look forward to seeing you at the show!

Thank you all again; I wish you all the best of luck in 2013! It's been a pleasure working with you all!

Artist Statement: "I was born and raised in Howard Beach, Queens NY. Born of a Jamaican father and Spanish mother, I grew up to be a multiracial person, raised in the 'Disco Era' where racial/cultural identity was a big deal. As a child I was always aware of the fact that i was different from my friends and neighbors; i had to learn early on how to adapt to what the world has in store for me. I tried my best to make it work with these differences, but some things simply cannot be changed - For example, it is impossible to hide your true self behind an over-the-shoulder baggy suit; since these types of clothing are becoming more and more popular, people who wear them are becoming increasingly conspicuous . . . Conclusion:

In addition to the free download, the new album is available on iTunes and Amazon.

Patch Adams or Christopher "Patch" Adams is a multidisciplinary artist who creates images and video that challenge cultural stereotypes. Born in Puerto Rico, Patch moved to Howard Beach, Queens when he was just two years old. While growing up Patch struggled with his identity following 8 years with his father in Morocco. This led him to an initial interest in illustrating, but turned into a career that focuses on performance art in addition to producing motion graphics for film and television.
