The New Way to Look Good
Wearing a turtleneck outside of your house might make experts cringe, but it's an undeniable style that is all the rage. And these days, nothing will make you feel more stylish than this piece of clothing. But what can be so good about the humble turtleneck? After all, most people only wear them for warmth and security.
So why not just go for a comfortable sweater instead? The truth is, you can't go wrong with a good turtleneck. It can be worn on any occasion or during any season of the year. It's also one of those garments that will never go out of style - so it's definitely worth investing in a few. Here are some tips to help you wear it without looking bad.
Let your personality shine
In most cases, people make the mistake of dressing up their turtlenecks too much. A plain white turtleneck and black pants might look good on Johnny Depp in his "Pirates of the Caribbean" days, but it will make you stick out like a sore thumb amongst ordinary people.
Your turtleneck should be a perfect blend of your personal style and fashion sense. Therefore, you can't do anything about the way you dress.
The only thing you need to do is let your personality show through so that other people will notice it. One way to do that is by having a turtleneck with an interesting, unique pattern. The best thing about it is that they are very easy to make. All you need is some basic sewing skills and a book of patterns, and you'll have yourself a nice piece of clothing in no time at all.
Choose the right fabric
What's important is that you choose the right fabric for your turtleneck. Even if you have a very nice pattern, the garment will be ruined if it isn't made from the proper material. Look for fabrics such as wool or cotton. They are warm and will keep you covered in colder environments. Polyester, on the other hand, can be dangerous during winter because of its ability to make you sweat - which means your clothing will have a musty smell even when it isn't that bad outside.
Additionally, look for light materials if you intend to wear your turtleneck during spring and summer. You don't want to get too hot and ruin your clothes.
Another good thing about light colors is that they help to keep you from sunburn. It is also a good idea to choose something with a bit of color. Even if the pattern on your turtleneck isn't the most interesting, a few banded detail might brighten it up enough for you to get away with wearing it outside.
Go for accessories
When you have a nice turtleneck on, it's important not to go overboard with accessories. A few bands over your shoulders or straps across your chest will suffice for showing off your coat at the same time as keeping it from looking too boring.
But if you really want to make a fashion statement, consider wearing a neck scarf underneath your turtleneck. Not only will it add a nice touch of color, but it will also help to keep the cold away from your neck.
There are so many ways of making a good turtleneck, that you might find yourself wanting to add one or two more coats of paint - and in some cases you'll want to. The key is doing this in moderation, and making sure that each coat doesn't take away from the next one.
If you follow these simple rules, then sooner or later you'll be able to wear a turtleneck and look like a nobody no more.
