Little Blue Truck is a story about Little Red Riding Hood who meets Little Blue Truck on his way to Grandma's house for a picnic. They become good friends and play together on their way to Grandma's house. But curious little red riding hood is always trying to understand what can be inside of a truck, and while they both enjoy the picnic, little blue truck never has a chance to enjoy his lunch because all she can think about is how hard her friend works to pull huge objects.
Little Blue Truck teaches children the values of friendship, trust, and companionship. It also shows them that no matter how small you are or what job you do, you can enjoy life more if you have a friend with you. 2. Llama Llama Time to Share by Anna Dewdney
Time to share is a story about Llamma Llama and his experience at the local library. The story is engaging, and each page will have your child asking for the next one to be read. The story teaches children about sharing and being kind to others, but it does that in a very gentle way that does not make them feel guilty if they decide not to share with others. This book will teach your child how to treat others even when they do not like them or enjoy their company.
3. Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney
This is another awesome book by one of my favorite authors, Anna Dewdney . In this story, Llama Llama is going to bed, but he is not sure he wants to go to sleep. He wants Mommy to lie down with him in his bed and tell him bedtime stories. But Mommy has other things she needs to do, so she tells him a bedtime story about the friendly lion that lives in the moon. The story is beautiful and the illustrations are so adorable that your child will be begging for a copy of the book as soon as you finish reading it for them. This book teaches children about emotions and how sometimes when you are sad it is best if you sleep it off rather than worrying about things that might not be there.
4. The Great Cookie Thief by Julia Cook A story about a little boy who devises a plan to steal the cookies from the cookie jar and get away with it. Unfortunately for him, he does not always succeed in his plans. One day he decides to take the cookies from the cookie jar and hide them inside of his toy box. He then claims that someone broke into their home and stole all of the family's cookies. His mother is very angry at this news but soon realizes that there are not any burglars but her little boy was actually behind this silly act. The illustrations in the book are beautiful and the story is something that will keep your child hooked to read more.
5. The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
A story about a little mouse who wants to scare off a big bad mouse by creating a story about a scary character called The Gruffalo, who lives in the wood. In this story, the little mouse meets lots of animals who tell him that they have seen The Gruffalo and each one has heard a different version of how he looks and where he lives. Eventually, the little mouse meets The Gruffalo himself and realizes that he is not so scary after all. This book teaches children how to share their thoughts and ideas with others, how to stick up for what they believe in and how to respect differences.
6. The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch
Beth is a girl who lives in a castle on the top of a mountain which is always too cold and cold winds blow through it all the time. One day she gets very upset when her toy soldier comes back home all muddy and full of dirt because he had been playing outside. She orders him to go back outside and play even though it is cold. But the toy soldier refuses to go out, claiming that he is too tired. So she hits him with a paper bag and tells him to go back out and play without her. The toy soldier obeys, but out of the window he sees a dragon which comes down from the mountain and captures his princess. Beth runs away fast with no shoes on and no clothes so she can avoid being captured by the dragon. But then she realizes that she has left her "true love" behind so she returns for him only to find out he does not want anything more to do with her because she was so mean to him. This book teaches children about friendship, loyalty and how to be kind to one's self. The illustrations are very beautiful and will leave your child totally engaged with every page of the book.
7. The Bear Went Over the Mountain by Katherine Deen
A story about a little girl who is trying to put her brother to bed when she just can't seem to fall asleep because the wind outside is so loud and it will not stop blowing.
