Vintage Posters as Valuable Investments

 Vintage Posters as Valuable Investments

Many people have begun to realize that, while they may not be a professional in the field, they are still able to make money, if only a little. By purchasing old and rare posters one can sell them on sites like eBay or Etsy and recoup half of their initial investment.

However if you're looking for a more lucrative investment, you might want to invest in some vintage advertising signs such as those used on buses or billboards. These are typically more valuable than other vintage posters, as they're in much better condition, and more appealing to collectors.
According to  The Poster Site , the value of a vintage bus advertising poster can range anywhere from $100 to $5,000, with an average of around $200. So if you do purchase one, you'll be making a profit after only a few months of selling it.
The company currently sells over 120,000 different vintage and rare posters all year round. For those who are unable to participate in the sale of their posters online or have no place to store them at home, there is also the option of having them framed in historic frames. This will cost you around $60, but you'll have your poster professionally packaged and ready for resale or display.
If a vintage bus sign isn't your cup of tea, The Poster Site also sells vintage movie posters that can be purchased for $3 to $500.
For those who collect movie memorabilia, there is another option: old theater signage. These signs are typically sold by collectors and have been used in theaters from past decades. If you're lucky, you might even find one that was used on one of the old haunted houses around town.
However, the best part about the theater signs is that they allow you to make a profit in various ways.  You can   use them as decoration, sell them on eBay or Etsy , or frame them and keep them for your own personal collection.
The final option for those who want to invest in vintage posters is to purchase one from an auction site like eBay. These are great for those who are looking for vintage posters that are no longer available online or in stores.
While it's important to make sure you're buying from a reputable website, many business owners have opened up their own store on eBay with great success, making thousands of dollars each year simply by reselling old posters.
There are also several other ways that you can still profit off of vintage posters, even if you don't have the time or space to display them. For example, you can sell them at art fairs, garage sales and antique mall events, as well as on your own website.
There are also posters available on Etsy that allow you to print on demand. This is a great way to make extra money from your posters without actually having to store and maintain them.

As a collector, I actually discovered this site by accident. A few years ago, I wanted to get my hands on an old poster from the 60's but I wasn't really sure where to go. In order to save money, I asked around some people and found out about a big auction called Modern Poster Auctions that happens every year in George Town, Grand Cayman Islands. Since you can't be there in person you cant really see what is going on for yourself. So after a good 4 years of saving up money and watching their auctions online and at the local library from home.. I was able to buy a couple of vintage posters that I really liked.
I have not sold them yet, because they are not the type of poster that you would expect someone to buy off of eBay. They are signed and have some really unique images on them and I am trying to find something similar at a lesser price so I can flip them and make a decent profit on them. In time, I'll get there but it's hard finding something that has that same appeal and is valued higher than what I paid for it at Modern Poster Auctions in Grand Cayman Islands.
The most important thing about buying vintage posters is making sure that what you're buying is authentic or not replicas or reproductions. There are so many fake vintage posters out there that you can't tell which ones are real or not if you're a novice collector. If a price seems to good to be true, then it probably is! Make sure you do your homework when it comes to collecting vintage posters and don't get scammed into buying something that has no value over time.
Vintage movie posters have become more popular in the past few years because of the popularity of many new movies coming out and the increased interest in old fashioned movie posters. A movie poster is a great way to advertise a film and get people excited about buying tickets. They're also a great way to show support for your favourite movie studios and to advertise some of their other products that can be purchased in the stores.
Most movie posters are 40" x 60" and have either a silver or gold border. Movie posters usually depict the lead actor of the film and generally have a text box containing either an explanation of the plot or information about the film itself. The term "movie poster" can also refer to promotional images for films or series of films, as well as stills from movies that were published in newspapers, such as lobby cards.
Although it may not be as profitable, collecting movie theater signage is also a good idea. These items are similar to vintage movie posters but have their own unique characteristics. They include exterior and interior signs that were used in old movie theaters all across the country. There are even some that were used in haunted houses of the past. Some signs, such as the famous "No Smoking" marquee, can be worth hundreds of dollars, especially if they are in excellent shape.
Earlier this week I found an antique shop near my house that had several original lobby card sets from the 1930's-1950's movies including some original lobby cards from Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with Lon Chaney Jr. and Lon Chaney Sr. The price was $28.00 for all of them. I also found a flier advertising the "original" Dracula film that was in retail stores in 1931. It looked like a modern poster but it said on the back "This picture is an original, not a copy or reproduction" and has all kinds of information about the picture and who the main actors are.

Conclusion

Vintage movie posters are a fantastic way to decorate your house. They will last forever, they look great and they can help you make some extra money if you sell them on eBay or at a convention. I hope this article has helped you in some way and I wish you luck if you choose to get into the world of vintage movie posters yourself.

I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, but collecting old movie posters are something that I enjoy doing regularly and I get some great satisfaction out of owning a collection of antique film posters.
