What My Cat Taught Me About Niche Marketing

The Internet is an undoubtedly powerful tool when it comes to marketing your business. With so many different outlets out there, it can be hard to decide where your niche is and how you should go about using the available tools. In this post, we're going to highlight one particular way in which niches can be defined: the type of product or service you offer. We'll discuss how my own cat, who suffers from a condition that gave him a permanent "wet nose," has inspired me to focus on writing about exclusively pet-related products.

Why Niche Marketing?

I'm sure you've heard it said, probably multiple times before, that the Internet is a very big place. There are billions of people out there, and all of them want to be your customer. While that might sound appealing on paper, the truth is that not everyone is ready to buy just because they know you exist. Attracting a customer requires targeted marketing; otherwise, you're spreading yourself thin trying to attract anyone and everyone who might show an interest in what you have to offer. Marketing based around niches can help businesses cut down on cost and time spent marketing while also giving their product more exposure with a more targeted audience.

Are you a dog person? That might mean, for example, that you have a pet-related product (pets are currently hot, so that's probably great), or it might mean that you just have pets themselves. Similarly, do you like cats? Maybe your niche is "cat" or "cats." You could also be a cat lover who writes about all things cat-related. You could even be an ex-cat-owner who has now escaped the claws of her former feline adversary. Writing about niche marketing is a great way to create an interesting niche for yourself.

How Can I Use Niche Marketing?

There are a few different ways in which you can use your niche to your advantage. First and foremost, you should pick a product or service that is related to your niche topic (or something close enough). In other words, you should be choosing something that is relevant in some way to what you write about. For example, if you are writing about pet products and have been writing about cat food, then maybe you don't have much choice other than writing about cat food again. If that's the case, then maybe focusing on dog food would be a better idea.

You can also write about things that relate to your niche indirectly. For example, you could write about the rules and regulations of pet ownership, or the best toys out there if you're a cat-lover yourself. In all of these cases, however, it's important to remember that you should always be writing about products or services you yourself use and recommend.

Writing in a Niche

Writing in a niche is all about thinking "outside the box" when it comes to blog posts and articles. Rather than sticking with what everyone else is talking about, you should focus on something that relatively few others are talking about.

For example, let's say that you are a cat-lover and are interested in product reviews. You can write articles on your favorite products (especially ones you've reviewed), and be sure to include links at the end of each article to where they can be bought. Or, if you're writing about pet products, perhaps you'd like to write about the low-cost items on Amazon.com that could help cats stay happy and healthy.

It's important to remember that when it comes to niche marketing, it's all about using your own experiences as an example for other people – something that has been taken for granted since time began thanks to our amazing ability as humans to empathize with one another.

What Should I Write?

One of the best parts about writing in a niche is that niche writers can write on just about anything they want as long as it relates to their topic. From product reviews to advice columns and everything in between, you are free to write literally anything you like. The most important thing when writing in a niche is that your focus stays there so that you don't become a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. This can be accomplished by making all of your posts about one topic only, for example with the use of categories within your blog, or by simply sticking to one subject within each post.
