We are talking about more practical goals that you can accomplish in a month or a year. The last thing you want is to stretch yourself too thin. It will be hard to survive in the market if you try to accomplish the same thing as your competitor and fail; but, if you set smaller goals for yourself and stay focused, then you will be able to experiment more freely with new ideas and methods, as well as have time to study your competitors' actions and see what they are doing wrong or right.

A major problem with business today is that nobody wants to do their homework anymore. They think that they can just come up with some half-baked idea and throw it out there and see if it sticks. What ends up happening is that the marketplace comes to realize this as well.
If you have a great idea, but other people have already tried it and failed, then you don't want to look like them. You want to look like a genius for bringing something new into the marketplace that only you could introduce. However, in order for that to happen, you will have to do your research first. The key is to not only make sure that your product/service is unique in its category; but, also that your company's name is unique in its sphere of influence as well.
If you already have a company name, then you will have to register it as a trademark and make certain that other companies do not infringe upon your intellectual property.
Now, if you're brand new to the game and are still working on the product/service side of things, then that's fine too. You'll just have to do more research into what your consumers want and what they need. After all, it's going to be hard getting people to buy something that they don't really need or want.
What I'm trying to say here is don't rush into anything; instead, take your time and do it right or not at all.
##Keep Doing What You've Always Done 
This is not revolutionary advice by any means, but there are so many people out there who could use this advice. As the old saying goes, "knowledge is power." Be well-informed on what you're going to do before you do it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen situations where a company tries a new concept and it fails because they have no idea what they're doing. With that being said, I would also advise that you take your time to study the market and then make sure that whatever you put in there "feels" right.
You don't have to make things up as you go along. You just have to be smart about it and think everything through. Sure, there is nothing better than being able to strike while the iron is hot and take advantage of an unexpected success; but, that doesn't mean that you should rush into things thinking you will be successful just because everything fell into place.
Once again, be smart about what you're doing. If you are truly a genius then it won't matter how long it takes for people to catch on; but, if you're like everyone else out there then patience will be your greatest asset.
The key is not letting fear control your decisions in the marketplace. Be sure to study the market before you make your moves.
##Don't Burn Yourself Out 
If anything is a constant in today's marketplace, it's change. It doesn't matter what field you're in; business, marketing, sales or finance, the nature of work these days is that there is always a new idea that has been executed only once before and there are always people who are trying to do it better than everyone else. If we take a look at any given year from 2008 to 2011 (when I wrote this), we can see clearly how everything changed with the way that advertising was done, social media grew exponentially and new companies were being started every day while some of the oldest companies closed their doors for good.
So, when you're trying to adopt these new tactics into your day-to-day life, you don't want to burn yourself out. Every year I see so many people who think that they can just go to work for a company for a few years and then quit because "it's time for them to pursue other interests." But, what usually ends up happening is that after they quit the job and get their feet back on the ground, they realize that the only thing that they're qualified to do is work at their old jobs.
If a person wants something different in their lives then they need to be willing to learn new things and educate themselves while at the same time working hard at it. It's all about taking the time to do what needs to be done instead of just thinking about it and letting it go.
It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, old or young, male or female, whatever; if you want a different life then you need to change things. It's as simple as that.
##How To Get Noticed 


If your plan is to compete in a saturated market then you need to find ways to make yourself stand out. One of the best ways is by making sure that people know who you are through advertising and branding.
If you're an author, then you need to do something that sets your book apart from all the other books on the market. If you are a chef and want people to know who you are, then get some food stamps that says "I'm a famous chef" and wear a button that says "I'm on food stamps."
How do I know? Because I did it as a juvenile delinquent in the early 1990's.
This worked very well for me because if anyone saw me wearing this crap, then they automatically knew that I was desperate and could be easily manipulated by others.
Another way to create brand awareness is through social media marketing. You can use this method to promote yourself without advertising. Facebook and Twitter have shown that social media is a very powerful tool for advertising. Some people use it to advertise their business, others use it to promote themselves and their brand, while others use it to promote their political points of view.
I've found that some people hide behind the anonymity of social media. When these people are discovered, they're either slandered or written off as crazy. Fortunately, there are a lot of charitable organizations who will give these people financial assistance and then they can move on with their lives; but, before they do any of those things there are many practical needs that need to be met first.

Conclusion
As a business owner and sales professional, I used to wonder why so many companies were doing things the way that they did. Now that I've been on my own for a couple of years, I understand now why things are done this way; because it works!
My advice to anyone who's thinking about starting their own business or is planning on expanding their current business would be to hire someone who knows what he/she is doing while you figure out the financial side of things.
If instead you plan on staying at a steady job then make sure that the company you work for has a growth plan in place because if they don't, then don't expect your job to be there forever.
