6 Tips for Keeping Your Cool When Customers Get Hot

When we're faced with high-stress situations, one of the inevitable things to happen is that we start to get a little hot under the collar (pun intended). These 6 quick tips will help you cool down and stay clam in any customer service situation.

1) Be kind and courteous. The nicer you are, the more likely a customer will be to follow your lead!
2) Stay professional at all times. Not only does it make you feel better during stressful interactions, but it also helps keep the customer calm down. Ease some of their stress by making them feel comfortable!
3) Listen to what they have to say without interrupting them or responding too quickly. As far as they're concerned, you may be the only person in the world who can help them. Respect that! Give them your full attention.
4) Show how you feel by keeping your body language open and friendly. It shows you're interested and taking an active role in the conversation.
5) Nod or respond to show that you're listening and understand what's being said to you.
6) Don't be combative. If a customer is being combative with you, stay calm and use a soft voice to tell him/her what he/she needs to do instead of telling him/her what not to do (even if it's tempting!).
