Are you an experienced or inexperienced blogger who is looking for ways to increase their adsense revenue? Or are you a publisher who wants help on how to pick the best adsense keywords? You've come to the right place! This blog post will take a look at some of the most common topics that people struggle with when using Google's Adsense program. I've also included links for all of my sources so that you can just click through if you want more information about anything specific.

Google Adsense is a great way for non-commercial bloggers to generate income from their blog. But it can be frustrating if you aren't making any money from it. Over the 6 years that I have been using Adsense, I've learned a lot of tips and tricks that have helped me make more money. So in this post, I will share some of my favorite Adsense hints and tips.

How To Make More Money With Adsense (General Tips)
The first thing that surprised me about Adsense is the quality of ads. Prior to using Adsense, I assumed that they were like the ones you see on many other sites. The results pages on Google are very annoying, with a lot of flashing and distracting ads which are difficult to ignore. But it turns out, when you create an account, you get to choose which ads show up in your ad slots. This makes it easy to pick only the ones that you want your visitors to see. This works especially well for blogs that cover a niche industry, for example: "The Top 10 Credit Card Companies." If you get the right ads in there, then many people will click on them because they are relevant.
You can also make more money with Adsense by maximizing your CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and RPM (revenue per thousand impressions). In a nutshell, this means optimizing your ads so that they get shown more frequently. Here are some of my favorite ways to do this:
A. Ad Placement
You can increase your CPM and RPM by choosing the right ad placement location on your blog. Adsense has specific requirements for certain ad placements. This is also important for SEO purposes, because the best placements on your blog depend on what keywords you want to rank for in Google. My favorite Adsense ad placement is:
A1: Above the content, but not above the fold
B. Choosing The Right Keywords
My favorite way to get more impressions and clicks from my Adsense ads is by picking the right keywords in my Adsense account. I find that I get a lot more clicks if I use industry related or niche specific keywords. These tend to get a better CTR (click-through rate) than general terms like "travel" which tend to have a low CTR. You can read more about keyword selection in this post:

I've written a lot about picking the right Adsense keywords for your blog. I've written books on the subject and blogged about it a lot. So if you want to know how to pick good Adsense keywords, check out my  How To Get More Clicks From Adsense post. It has over 8 comments with 43 pages of links! If you have any tips and tricks, please add them in the comments below!
#1: Use ad placement A9 – "Above The Fold" (High Traffic/High Quality) When Google first started the Adsense program, it was a lot harder to get approved to use it. I had to go through a manual approval process. But after years of using it, Google has made it so easy to get approved that you can do it easily through your account settings.
For my blog, a1 is the location where I want all of my ads to appear. I use Google Adsense because it is a great way for me to earn extra money from this blog and I like the ads from the advertisers who pay me. They are good quality ads that are appropriate for my readers and format.
But even though a1 is the top best area for placing Adsense ads on my site, A9 is still very important because it shows up at the top of most people's search results when they use Google. That's where most of my traffic comes from, and I want to give Google a chance to show these ads because they are generating me a lot of traffic.
The other reason for choosing A9 as my first ad slot is that it is an area that many people will overlook. I don't want people ignoring the ads that I've placed above the fold on this site, because they might miss out on some useful content, but I don't mind if people ignore ads at the top of their search results because they aren't looking for anything in particular.
#2: Use ad placement B1 – "below the fold" (low traffic/low quality) My next best placement after A9 is B1.
You have to be careful with this placement. The biggest problem with B1 is that Google tends to show ads for new and developing sites in this ad slot. It creates a bad user experience when people see a new site with an ugly template among the top results of their search query. A lot of times these ads won't make any sense, so they are easy to ignore. Some other users will click on them, but they won't generate much revenue because they aren't very high quality clicks. So it really depends on your choice of template and Adsense design too, but generally speaking I don't recommend placing your ads in this area unless you have no other options available.
#3: Use ad placement C1 – "above the sidebar" (medium traffic/medium quality) This is another area that I don't recommend using, even though it is one of the most common placements. I like using this area because it has big font and it looks good and is visible to readers. But there are a couple of problems with this placement. The biggest problem is that the Adsense ads rarely show up in this location because they tend to be placed above or below the content on most blogs.

Conclusion : I don't recommend using ad placement C1 because the ads want to be placed within the content on most blogs.
I think it makes more sense to place your ads within your content because it often looks better and is more relevant!
If you are using a basic Adsense template then you will have to use this area because there are no other good options. But if you use a premium theme like the ones at Dreamstime, then you can often place ads in A2 or A4 (both of these areas show up above the fold, not below).
