Ever wonder what to do when your employees are feeling down and your morale is low? One way you might think to increase the morale of your workforce is by hosting an exciting and unique excursion, maybe a day out at a stimulating museum or a team event that includes zip-lining, paintballing, or treasure hunting.

There are many different types of team building activities that can increase the morale of your staff. The trick is to pick one that will be engaging and exciting for you as well as engaging and exciting for each individual in the group.

Our first suggestion is to take a day trip to a local amusement park or zoo, a place where the whole team can get out of their comfort zone and learn new things about themselves (and each other) along the way. The campfire picnic gives participants the opportunity to sit around and talk together and enjoy some great food from your back yard. And the best part of all is that the outing is free!

Second, if your workplace is located in an outdoor environment (say, the woods or a park), why not take an overnight camping trip? One of your fellow workers might not have had much of a chance to do this since college. This can be a great way to bond with your team as they share their experiences of having slept outside in the wilderness, especially in cold weather. You can pull out any number of old camping equipment or even make fire rings with old mason jars and firewood once you get enough supplies together.

Our third suggestion is to take the team on an educational hiking trip. You can learn about different ecosystems and get a chance to see some beautiful scenery both during the day and at night if you stay up for the beautiful sunset. If you have a large group, you can split off into smaller groups for competition or even for classifying a nearby plant or animal specimen to give everyone some bragging rights. What's more, this activity should cost less than $20 per person—you might already have everything you need in your shed (like backpacks, flashlights, and even gaiters).

Finally, what about taking your staff on an educational trip abroad? This can easily be done with a little planning and research. Unlike most other team building activities, this one can actually be very beneficial to many of your coworkers and colleagues. It's a great way to use your employees' international experience while learning something new yourself. You may discover a world that you did not know existed or have a deep appreciation for the people and cultures of another nation.

Whatever type of team building excursion you decide on, make sure it is truly fun and exciting for each team member in the group. And be sure to include the ones who are less excited about group outings in your planning so that everyone can feel included!
