Introduction to an informative and factual blog post titled "What is white privilege?"
The term "white privilege" refers to the various things in life that are easier for whites than other racial groups. According to Peggy McIntosh, the one who came up with the idea of white privilege, there are 50 different types. These include:
• I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.
• I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.
• Whether I use checks, credit cards or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against me.
• I can choose blemish cover or bandages in "flesh" color and have them more less match my skin.
• I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser's shop and find someone who can deal with my hair.
• Whether I use checks, credit cards or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against me. [etc.]
Sample text for an informational piece about relevant news for your target audience: A report from the U.S. government says scientists might have found thousands of new planets that could possibly support life.
How could an organization apply this strategy?
PR Daily reports that last week, the U.S. government announced the discovery of thousands of exoplanets—new worlds orbiting other stars—by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope mission. The planets were found by detecting variations in light from 150,000 distant stars, caused when the planets passed in front of them during their orbit. Although most of the potential new worlds are too hot for water, carbon dioxide and methane to exist, scientists suspect some could have conditions similar to Earth's.
How could a website or blog use this strategy?
The current findings were published in the journal Science Advances. The National Science Foundation (NSF) project that discovered these new worlds is the Kepler program. NASA launched the Kepler mission in 2009 to search for planets outside our solar system, but some scientists saw potential for finding habitable planets like Earth before that mission ended in 2013. Researchers have since continued the mission through a ground-based follow-up named K2, which spotted nearly 1,300 new exoplanet candidates through 2016.
Sample text for an article about a company or product: Spotify is aiming to improve your music listening sessions by introducing personalized playlists based on your preferences and likes.
How could an organization apply this strategy?
Spotify is an online music streaming service that has been described as a kind of "Pandora for Music." It lets users stream millions of songs for free, without ads or any interruptions. You can also pay to listen to the same tracks and albums again, but the company insists that it’s still a “freemium” service. In 2016, Spotify (along with rival Apple) introduced features that allow users to create personalized playlists based on their preferred music by sending song information directly to the company’s servers.
How could a website or blog use this strategy?
Spotify gave users more control over the existing options available on its services. For example, the free version of Spotify lets you create up to three playlists, and can limit your selection to songs played by your favorite artists or those you’ve listened to most recently. However, you can only organize your playlists by the time they were created; they’re not specific to personal preferences or previous listened-to albums. You can also track how many times each song has been played; and only three songs can be added at one time for every playlist.
Sample text for an article about a pressing issue in a specific country: The Zika virus has been around since the 1940s and is carried by mosquitoes, but it was only this year that it began to circulate as a serious health threat. The mosquito that carries the disease, Aedes aegypti, is found mainly in tropical regions of Africa (particularly Egypt), Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the southern parts of North America. It is thought to have originated in Africa.
How could an organization apply this strategy?
The Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus transmitted from animals to humans by mosquitoes (Aedes mosquitoes). Zika was first discovered in rhesus monkeys in Uganda’s Zika Forest in 1947. For decades it was thought to cause only mild disease, and most people had no symptoms or only mild symptoms. The first large Zika outbreak outside of Africa and Asia occurred in 2007 on the island of Yap, Micronesia, where more than 75% of the population was infected. . . . The virus is mainly spread from person to person by Aedes mosquitoes, which also spread other tropical diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya virus. Aedes aegypti is the mosquito species mostly responsible for transmission, although Aedes albopictus and other Aedes species can also transmit Zika.
How could a website or blog use this strategy?
Health officials have been warning Australians to protect themselves against mosquitoes, because the Zika virus is spread quickly among humans by the bite of an infected insect. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Zika a global emergency because of its link to birth defects in developing babies. And it wasn’t until February 2016 that it was linked to microcephaly—a condition where babies are born with abnormally small heads and incomplete brain development.
Sample text for an article about the latest research or news: A study published in the February 6th issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), analyzed trends in teen pregnancy rates among 15 to 19 year-olds for more than three decades—from 1988 to 2014. After controlling for variables such as birth control use, socioeconomic factors, and other factors that might influence pregnancy rates, researchers found no association between a decrease in contraceptive use and a rise in the teen birth rate.
How could an organization apply this strategy?
• Teenagers have access to more information about contraception than adults, from books and internet sources. • We have digital devices like smartphones which can provide quick access to contraception information.
Conclusion
The strategies in this article will help make your writing more engaging. By applying one or more of these techniques, however, it will be challenging to create a full-length paper entirely without repeating words. It is unlikely that you can avoid repetition altogether in your own independent writing, but the strategies described here should reduce the bulk of redundant word usage while ensuring that the ideas you want to share are communicated clearly and effectively.
