Corporate Identity Management
A corporate identity management system allows corporations to maintain a consistent appearance across various mediums. Allowing the company to present a unified and consistent brand persona with the ability to adapt for future changes and successes.
To make this happen, there are three key components necessary:
1) The information architecture that defines how information is organized within the system, 2) The communication systems used by employees and consumers, including trade show materials, websites/blogs, social media pages like Facebook or Twitter as well as internal communications systems such as email or intranet sites. 3) The data warehouse that stores all of the content in one central location for easy access through search functions or automated retrieval processes.
A corporation may have multiple data warehouses depending on the information they contain, but generally there is one main data warehouse that contains the bulk of the corporate identity. This central location allows all employees to easily access information and content. Information such as employee manuals, job descriptions and office locations can be easily updated, added or removed with this centralized system. Additionally, any revisions or changes in branding design can be merged into the system transforming previously existing information in a consistent way.
Information architecture deals with how information is organized within a database. The more efficient the process for finding specific information within the database, the easier it will be for employees and consumers to find what they need quickly and efficiently. Navigation within a database can be achieved through different methods and techniques. Within a corporate identity management system, information architecture is achieved by assigning specific attributes to each piece of content in the database, e.g. job title, department, location or any other data that will help users find what they need as quickly as possible.
Data management systems allow corporations to easily update their branding and visual identity across all communication mediums to ensure an efficient and consistent appearance over time and with minimal effort. Content updates are often done using templates that contain common elements across each channel or type of communication medium used by the corporation. These templates are then used almost as a 'fill in the blank' style of programming. The content for each element is selected and customized within the specific channel the information will be used in. This allows the corporation to keep branding consistent across all communication mediums without a large amount of work.
Many systems include data warehouse technology that allows corporations to automate several processes with minimal to no effort on the end user's part, including automatically updating or adding images and copy as well as uploading files and extracting data. Other automated processes include adding metadata to keep information organized within the system, as well as searching and retrieving information based on specific parameters or attributes. Allowing corporations to easily retrieve information related to any changes in their branding or visual identity with minimal effort on their part.

Conclusion
In general, a corporate identity system is a collection of processes and configuration files which are used to manage all aspects of the company's corporate identity, such as creating and maintaining forms, page layout assets and style sheets. In order for a corporate identity management system to be implemented, data must be collected from various systems as well as any changes that will be made to the branding. The data can then be organized into a format that can be searched or fed into different automation processes. Some of these automation processes may include: application programming interface (API) management and document generation.
