Corporate Team Building - Shake 'Em Up To Wake 'Em Up
Team-building is an important process in any company to foster the sense of unity and create new bonds between colleagues. It is important to choose games that will be enjoyed by all members of the team, while not alienating anyone. Would love to share with you some of my ideas for team building here:
> One recent trend has been the use of escape rooms in business settings, as a way for teams to work together at problem solving and communication skills by working together to crack puzzles. The physical activity can have a positive effect on the group’s energy level and morale, while also putting employees into an unfamiliar environment which stretches their perspective beyond just their own day-to-day tasks.
> Another way to get the team to work together in a positive and stimulating manner is to go for a game day – where you take your team out for a day in the country, on a weekend or even during the week. You have several types of games available from paintballing, sky diving, skydiving, rafting and more. This can be an exciting experience that tests how well your colleagues actually function as a team.
> One thing that has always worked is the idea of making an obstacle course out of the office. Get everyone to work in teams and create a virtual obstacle course using office equipment and work space. You can then run the course either as a team building exercise or as part of your staff training program.
> A team building activity that all employees can enjoy is to simply give out participation trophies. For each person who completes all of the steps involved in your games/activities, they will receive a trophy medal for their efforts and marks them off on their list of accomplishments which could then be plastered on the wall of their office for all to see!
> One thing that might make this easier for you, is to get your business’ sponsor involved to develop some games and activities for you. You can then get the sponsors to join in on the fun and make it something memorable.
> You could always do an activity which is aimed at your employees’ physical health and wellbeing. This would not only be stimulating, but also useful to each employee’s health and wellbeing. There is a lot of research into the positive effects that team sports have on employees, both mentally and physically.
> Team building can be further encouraged by ensuring that there is an open-door policy in your office and that it is suggested that employees report how they are getting along with their colleagues as part of their daily routine, through focus groups and team sessions that aim to improve communication between departments.
> A great way to get your team of employees to bond is to encourage them to interact with you via social media, for example on social media pages of your business. If a number of people submit their updates about what they are doing during their day-to-day tasks then this can foster the team spirit and make the work environment more interesting for them!
In summary – whether you want to engage in fun and games or simply create more engagement in your team, there are a number of ways that you can engage in team building activities. For example, you could run an "escape room for the office", invite some of your staff out for sports training, give out participation trophies or even create an obstacle course incorporating office equipment.
