Free classifieds – Using them to promote your stuff online
The internet is now the first port of call for many people when they need to buy or sell things. It’s not just because it’s easy and convenient, but also because you can get honest feedback on your goods and services in a public domain.
There are plenty of websites where you can post classified ads for free and promote your goods or services to a wider audience than what might otherwise be possible.
When setting up a free classified website you’ll want to provide the following:
A contact email address and phone number.
A URL for your site – this should be pretty long, as most people are overwhelmed by sites that only have a minute or two of text. Desperate housewives are a nightmare to sell anything to!
Some good images and/or text to get potential buyers interested in the service you’re offering (with at least one good image per category). This is usually where the ‘testimonials’ come in. If you offer multiple services, have them under different categories so that buyers can find something they need.
If you’re planning on selling a product, then a payment gateway to take the money.
A terms and conditions page, so that everyone knows what you expect of them.
A feedback page. If a buyer doesn’t feel that they have received a satisfactory service, then they should let you know where you can improve next time or if they are happy with your service (and other buyers may want to know this as well). This is also good for repeat traders.
Encourage buyers to talk about the service/product in their own words (don’t just stick links on the sales pitch).
Make sure that the website is mobile-friendly.
They’re also a good way to get better reviews on your product.

Third, if the potential buyer or seller is in a different city, state, county or country than your own, use Google to verify their address. This will quickly eliminate many buyers and reduce the risk of fraudulent and/or scam sales that tend to happen on free classifieds sites.
Fourth, and most importantly for your business: Be sure to check out the forums on these sites. Many pervasively scammers create accounts and start pretending to be knowledgeable about your product/service so they can talk belief quickly with others who they believe are genuine customers. Others will be looking for information about products you offer (including competing companies).
