Running a small business - a few tips to make your life easier

Running a small business can be tough, especially if you're just starting out and don't have much experience. That's why this post will provide some advice on how to make your life easier when running a small business.

First things first, if you are looking for a quick and easy guide on exactly how to start your own business then this is not the blog for you.  The best way to find your niche is through trial and error - keep in mind these tips when making that decision:
-Find something that someone needs but isn't getting service already.
-Make sure you're adequately trained in all areas of your business so you can get a job done to the best of your ability, no matter what.
-If a friend recommends something that they're promoting or needs help with, listen and follow their advice.
-Always be willing to answer any questions that customers may have about your products or services.
-Don't ever take on an assignment thinking you know more than the customer - don't be condescending but don't be rude either.
-Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
-Be humble - you may be an expert at what you do now, but you were new at it once, too.
-Don't be afraid to tell your customers how long you've been doing something, whether it's been a year or ten years. Be honest and they'll respect you more for it.
-Remember that business is business - if a customer is rude or disrespectful treat them that way as well because if they don't like the way  you are treating them they will leave and go elsewhere and not come back.
Remember that in order to run a small business successfully you have to focus on making the customer happy.  If you are rude, the customer will leave and probably not return. If a customer is disrespectful, don't take it personally - just treat them that way.
Here are some other random things to think about when you're running a small business:
-Always make sure that your business has credit cards on file for clients who can't pay at the time a job is being done. (It would be a good idea, too, to have pre-approved credit cards on file so you can avoid situations like this.)
-Be sure to keep receipts of any job that's being done, as well as if there's any damage done to the house or car while they're at it. Make sure you keep on file all of the work that has been done.
-Ask your clients to sign a form saying they'll pay you within a certain amount of time after they've paid the job, and make sure they do. If a client doesn't pay, don't just come up with excuses. Send them an email or call them to discuss the matter and get them to pay you.
-If a client wants to transfer their car insurance from their old vehicle to their new one, explain that this will be an additional cost for them if they want it transferred over. Be straightforward about this - it's not something you want to hide or avoid doing if you can help it.
-Keep good records! It's very important that you keep all of the receipts from every job that you do, as well as contact information for anyone who has given you any kind of payment.
-Make sure your clients know where they can find further information on your business. There should be a website and also an email address that they can contact you at. Make sure they know how to get in touch with you if they have any questions or need more information.
-Make it known in your advertisements that you'll provide free estimates too - this is something many people want to do but don't want to pay for, so showcase it prominently in your adverts and Facebook posts.
-If you have a website, add Yelp reviews to your site and make sure to respond to any kind of reviews that you get on there.
-Know the ins and outs of your product or service. If you don't, allow yourself some time to learn because if something goes wrong while someone is there it's going to reflect poorly on you if you know little about what you're doing.
-Keep all of your receipts for taxes.
Above all else, remember that running a small business requires hard work and dedication - it's not easy at first but if you're willing to stick with it there's no end in sight! A lot of people try to start their own business but very few actually succeed. If you want it bad enough, then you can do it. On your mark, get set... go!
