 Tips for writing effective headlines

Every single day, millions of people skim headlines online to decide which article they're going to read. If you want your blog post to be seen by as many people as possible, it's important that you learn how to write effective headlines.

In this blog post we'll provide tips on how you can make the most out of your titles and entice your audience into clicking through and reading more.

This article was written a collaboration with The Bloggers Guild.

1. Be Specific

Headlines are often meaningless and the average person can see that, for example: "Top 5 tips for bloggers" or "Top tips to blogging." When writing headlines like this, you're providing no value to your readers and you're wasting their time. So be sure to get specific with your titles. This will help you make a more powerful impact on your audience. If you have 25,000 people visiting your blog every day but only have 5,000 subscribers then the chances of someone reading an article that they weren't interested in is pretty high. For example, instead of being vague with your headlines, you can get very specific. This way people will know exactly what they're going to get out of your content. This will save a lot of people from bouncing away and finding another blog to read.

2. Don't be too long

With writing content for the web getting more competitive everyday, it's important that we keep our content short and sweet. Readers like short and sweet simple articles. Long articles are usually a no go for bloggers because readers want information fast and simple. So be sure to leave the long articles for magazines and commercials because people don't have time for them online anymore.
