It seems like every day there is some sort of new trend or fad out there about what's hot, what's happening and what might be coming next. Our society is always on the lookout for something new, something that will push us further into our technological boundaries!
The truth is that many trends today have been around for quite some time; they just don't necessarily get much attention. With each passing year, we become more aware of certain trends that have been around for a while. These trends are often overlooked or left on the back burner because they may not be as "hip" and popular today. But you know what? These trends are the ones that will propel us forward and give us our best chance of moving into the future with a wealth of knowledge from our past.
When I first had this idea for my blog, I didn't think it would take off as much as it has. I've been blown away by how many people have read this blog and by how many people have reached out to me to ask me what I know about certain topics (for example, retro gaming, antiques, and vintage sewing machines). I feel lucky that I get to help others figure out what they are passionate about and what they want to do with their life.
So I'm going to share a few of my favorite trends that I think you need to know about before you start exploring them further.
The first is the trend of watching movies yourself on your own digital HD projector instead of just borrowing someone else's at a theater or paying for a movie ticket.
This isn't really a trend, but it's pretty darn popular today! Today, we all have access to online video content from YouTube and Netflix, and more than ever before, people are taking advantage of this fact by streaming most TV shows and movies through their computer or media player.
If you want to be in the know on this topic, then you need to check out these sites that I use for my own video streaming:
#1: SnagFilms
This is a site that hosts videos from indie filmmakers. Most of the movies hosted here are shorter than an hour. They also have some longer documentaries. If you're into independent films, then you should definitely check out this site!
#2: Crackle.com
Crackle has a large collection of movies from the 1940's to the present. They also have a lot of comedy specials on this site. I like Crackle for TV series, or movies that I want to see "after they air."
#3: iTunes
You can download iTunes from here . Now you can watch TV series on your computer at the same time as other people!
#4: Hulu Plus
You can also download this app from here , which has a huge repository of TV shows that are either paid or free to watch. You can access lots of movies and shows on this app as well.
#5: Amazon Prime Video
This is an app that you need if you are an Amazon Prime member. It has free TV shows, movies and such that you can watch on your computer or on your phone or tablet.
#6: Netflix
Netflix is the place to go if you want to stream movies and TV shows. You can add this app to your media player in order to watch all your favorite movies right from here .
#7: Apple Trailers
If you have an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) then there's a great app called Apple Trailers that you should download. This app has trailers from all your favorite movies, TV shows and video games. Many of the trailers on this app are free.
#8: Crackle (again!)
Crackle is a great site that hosts movies and TV clips that you can stream right on your computer! Visit their site here to get started!
#9: Netflix Original Series
If you want Netflix to stream a series that's not available yet, then you can download their app here which will give you access to the original series that haven't reached the streaming platform yet.
#10: YouTube
YouTube is a huge resource for videos and movies. You can access most of your favorite movies here .
#11: TV Tropes
TV Tropes has a bunch of summaries that you can use to help you define tropes from classic TV shows like Star Trek and The Twilight Zone. They also have a bunch of articles that are well-written with the same goal in mind. I've spent hours running around the web reading these articles to find new ways that I can use to improve my writing.
#12: IMDB
I recently discovered this site which shows you all the award nominations and winners from the past year. It is a great source of information to help you know what other people think is good. This website has a good number of lists that you can use to help you narrow down your search for movies, TV shows and actors.
Most of these sites are free to watch! If you have an Apple device then these are perfect, because Apple has its own app store right on your computer or media player. If not, then maybe try out Amazon's Prime app and use an Android (or Windows!) device.

Conclusion
I hope that this list has given you some creative ideas for finding movies that you haven't seen before and can help you discover new favorites!
