Why Small Organizations Mean Big Business
The Internet is a vast resource. It's dotted with thousands of good websites, some of which are top in their niche. There are also many bad websites and forums that have low- or even no-quality content on them. But as you explore the website world, one particular concern comes to mind: Which sites are the best? Which ones have high standards for quality and content? The answer is surprisingly simple: Small organizations mean big business! They may be small in scope but they’re certainly not lacking in expert knowledge when it comes to offering some of the highest quality writing you'll find online.
For example, my own (former) website is designed and managed by a small group of people. In fact, it's the only website that I, as the owner, manage or even create on my own. I am the only author or contributing writer on it as well. Yet I have tons of experience writing stuff that is highly educational and even professional in nature. That's because my organization is one of those small ones you mentioned above: It was founded in 2008 by me and some good friends who were also educators . Its name is The College Writing Lab . We offer hundreds of free articles to site visitors about all aspects of writing for college students (and their professors).
Unlike some other websites out there that often take a generic, cookie-cutter approach to website creation and management, my organization follows the old adage "you are what you eat." In simple terms, this means that the quality of the content on my site is directly proportional to the skills of our writers. If a writer can't put together quality stuff, he or she won't be writing for us. I'm proud to say that no one can beat our writers' skills!
The reason why small organizations mean big business is because they do things differently than other sites and companies. For example, I have the right to choose my own writers and edit their work before posting it on my site (or not). I'm not accountable to anyone but myself. I don't have a staff of editors who'll decide which articles will be posted, who'll write the content, and so on. That's because I can hire the best writers from around the world. These writers are experts in their fields and are very experienced in writing for multiple organizations and websites. They're also highly educated about word processing, grammar, and proper writing practices.
Why is this kind of "small" organization so big? Because quality is one thing that small organizations tend to have in abundance . If a website owner is simply looking for quick money, he or she won't be able to provide any substantial content on his or her site (nor would they want to). If you're looking for misleading or questionable content, such as "tricks" for making money online, or anything else but systematic manuals on how to survive the college years, don't waste your time with such sites. They can always turn around and say that the information is outdated or even fake.
This article isn't meant to lambaste commercial websites that are run by large companies with many employees working on them. It's simply meant to show you that it's possible to have a decent website with a small staff and still make big business (which means lots of extra cash!) out of it.
So I hope this article is helpful for those who are new to website creation. Or even for those who've been in the business for a while but have stopped updating their sites and have let their businesses go stale because of it! This is why I feel that we need to get back into launching sites and companies again. So my advice with regard to websites is: Don't wait too long and start building your very own!
