Nostalgia Is Big Business For Clothing Company
We all know how it is. One day you look in your closet and notice that,
despite your best efforts, it's mostly filled with clothes from 2007. You have a sudden flash of panic that maybe jeans/shirts/designer items are in style again! Oh no! Is this what my generation has been reduced to? Does nobody care about the need for updated wardrobes anymore?
But rest easy, friends — you're not going to be out on the fashion merry-go-round from now on. Simply turn to NEXT, a clothing company who understands the sentiment of wanting things to stay the same, but wisely knows that's not possible either.
"We're a brand that speaks to nostalgia," said NEXT's CEO/co-founder Stephanie Stiavelli. "Everyone wants clothes that make them feel like they've just left college, but what we're really trying to do is bring back the feelings of high school and junior high — the days where you had so much passion for your favorite band, book series, or TV show."
Stiavelli points out that some of us get stuck in a loop of trends. "For example, think about those 'I love Baby Gap' jeans you wore in middle school. Maybe you still have a pair. Then, later on, you grew up and stopped liking Baby Gap. But now maybe you're older — maybe you're in your late twenties or thirties — and you want to get back into that kind of thing: the passionate feelings of being a teenager. We're here to help you relive those feelings so that they'll be alive forever."
NEXT's bestseller is their Ramones T-shirt collection. "Oh my god, I love this!" exclaims Stiavelli. "We've sold thousands of these shirts to people who are totally sick of graphic tees from 2012, but still feel like maybe they need something with a cool punk edge. That's the best part about it: you'll get in touch with your inner punk and you're going to feel all dorky up on stage at your ten-year high school reunion!"
"Our customers are so loyal. They stick with us. After a year or two of buying the same stuff over and over, we're like their favorite record store, and we do everything we can to make sure that's what they think of us."
"I hope people are like 'I love this company!'" Stiavelli exclaims. "I hope we're the Gap T-shirt of 2013. Or, you know, The Ramones of 2013. I can't wait for that reunion in ten years."

Conclusion: why am I not rich?
Yup. Nostalgia is big business . And corporate connections are the key to getting published . Or something. Whatever. Moving on...I have always been a huge fan of the Ramones . From their first time on Saturday Night Live to their last, I've always been a firm believer in the importance of Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy. I've seen them in concert at least ten times (maybe more), but it's been about 20 years since my last live show and my old Ramones t-shirts are looking more like rags than anything else these days - so when NEXT came calling with their new line of Ramones tees , I jumped at the chance to review them.
