Podcasting - What Is It?  How Can It Help Me?

If you have been looking for an easy way to increase your listeners email list, but you aren't sure how podcasting works, then this might be the post for you! Podcasting is a relatively simple way to share your knowledge with the world. It's not just for those in traditional broadcast positions anymore.
How can it help you?
There are many ways to use podcasting...  It's a great way to communicate with the public about your expertise. You can talk about anything. The possibilities are endless! You can combine this with your blogging or website content as well. Podcasts are easy and free to create.
Nowadays, we all have a way to use our iPods and iPhones to listen to podcasts. You can create your own podcast and publish it directly to iTunes (itunes.apple.com) or you can get a free RSS feed from iTunes. I recommend going with the RSS feed first, because you won't need an Apple account or iTunes software, but you will need a computer that has an internet connection and will be able to listen to the podcast when it's created on demand.
There are many types of podcasts out there, including radio broadcasts, news shows, sports shows, comedy shows... and others!
If you are lucky enough to be a doctor, a teacher or have some kind of training in a specific area of expertise, you can create a podcast that is all about your life and career as a professional. There are even many podcasts out there dedicated to just one topic. For instance, there's an all-sports podcast called Sports Talk Radio , an all business podcast named The Business Podcast , and the "Ask Dr. Lou Podcast" is basically a radio show where I answer any questions regarding medicine from my patients/clients... (also the title of the last episode!).
Oh, and did I mention how easy it is to create a podcast? Just go to iTunes and you'll notice that a "podcast" button is located next to the "music" button. That's all you need. When you click that button, you will be able to log in with your Apple ID/iTunes account and publish your very own podcast!
Isn't it time for your voice to be heard?
There are so many different ways that you can use this type of outlet... it's definitely worth trying out! Give yourself the opportunity of bringing more exposure to what you do or who you are. It would be an interesting experience for anyone who has never made one before. We all need to communicate better, whether it's through our blogs or podcasting. It can be hard to find the time between work and other commitments.
You don't need to start a podcast today to see how it benefits your business. Get hooked on iTunes for about 30 minutes and try it out. Give yourself the opportunity as I did!
Happy Podcasting!

Hi, I'm Melinda Garvey, the host of the podcasting course and it is my pleasure to welcome you to this article on Podcasters' Society. The biggest mistake I see podcasters make is over-analyzing their content. We're all capable of being hosts, but it isn't necessary to make our podcasts into some massive time suck. If you just sit down and get it done, you will have a lot more time in your life to do the things that matter to you. The most successful podcasters I've spoken with are those that plan out the entire process before they ever record anything. In this article, I've covered the three main questions that all new podcasters should ask themselves. More importantly, I'll be giving you a list of tips from successful podcasters to help you out along the way. By following this guide, you'll be able to produce a podcast in no time and begin attracting new listeners in the most efficient way possible. Now let's discuss these questions... What information do your potential listeners need? There are 3 common questions that many people want to know before they start listening to a podcast: The first question being "what's in it for me?" This is by far the easiest question for us to answer when thinking about our content. If we know the answer to this question, then we can create a content schedule for our podcast that will take into account of holidays and nights out.
The second question asks "how can I listen?" This is a more difficult one to answer as we'll talk about how to get your podcast on iTunes later on. The last question that you should ask yourself is "what do I want people to know about?" This will be the main focus of your podcast as it'll be your calling card for anybody who wants to make contact. It's important that you have some sort of niche in mind before getting started so you're not wasting time creating content that doesn't serve the purpose you're trying to accomplish. What's your podcast theme? Before you sit down and plan out your podcast schedule, you need to have a central theme in mind. What are you trying to accomplish with this podcast? Are you trying to make some extra money on the side? Or do you want to create an entirely new career for yourself? As with any business, it all begins with having a niche. Work within that niche and plan out several steps of how it will get bigger and better over time. One of the biggest mistakes I see podcasters make is thinking that they're going to become an instant success if they put out just a few episodes. It's rare for any podcast to start off as an instant hit, even if it has awesome content and great production value.

Conclusion

By clarifying these 3 important questions, you'll be able to make progress in the right direction. With time, you'll know how to get exposure for yourself so that when people are asking you where they can listen to your show, you can reply with the correct information. You'll also be able to create a content script that people will understand and want to listen to more than once. In closing, I'd like to say this: don't over-analyze your content before getting started! Don't worry if everybody else does it differently; just get after it and see what happens...
