Postcard Monologue

 Postcard Monologue

With an ever-increasing global population, and the increasing difficulty of transportation and communication, letters are becoming a fast disappearing form of communicating with friends and loved ones. Sure, there’s always Skype or Messenger to stay in touch virtually - but how many people can you truly stay in contact with through messages alone?

Enter postcards. It’s a way for friends to keep in touch without spending lots of time online, like on social media or playing video games. You can buy them from souvenir stores or from vending machines at airports everywhere. Even if there’s no one to send a postcard to, you can simply buy one anyway and write a little something on it. Some people even like to send postcards as a way of communicating with themselves, or with their future or past selves.

It’s also nice to receive postcards in the mail, especially when they come from far away places like America, France and Japan. It amazes you how many different places there are in the world when you think about it. And you’d never even have been able to visit most of them if it weren’t for postcards.

Sometimes, you’ll even get a special postcard that is customized just for you. For example, someone could write a message on the back of the postcard and sign it with their own name, just like in old times when people would send letters. Or they could take an ink pen and write messages all over the postcard, or draw caricatures or funny little drawings of themselves. And sometimes they’ll use glitter pens or markers to make their writing more colorful and exciting - though these kinds of postcards cost more than the standard ones with regular black ink only.

There are even Christmas postcards to send to your friends and family members. What better way to share the joy of the holiday season with them than through a little message written on a postcard? While it’s not as special as sending them a handwritten letter - or even Snapchatting a message - it’s still something nice to do. And if you can, it would be great if you could send some postcards from different places around the world.

All too soon, though, you’ll eventually have to fold up your postcards and put them into that box stored in your room, where they will sit until you go away again on your next trip. But I’m sure you will have fun writing postcards on your next trip, so see you then.
